I researched a great deal into good places to stay and was not disappointed! Dorf Alm lived up to the reviews that I read on Trip Advisor! It's a very comfortable, traditional Austrian guesthouse. Maria and her family made us feel very welcome and the rooms were spotlessly clean. Traditional Austrian cuisine was served every night with a choice for vegetarians. Our children (aged 16 and 13) enjoyed discovering and experimenting with the Austrian food served. We woke up on Easter Sunday to find chocolates on the banisters and hidden about the hotel which was great fun for the children and a lovely touch by the owners. The Hotel location is perfect - walking distance from the Hochgurgl Gondala Station and only 2 minute walk from the bus that takes you straight into the heart of Obergurgl (just 5 - 10 mins drive away). Boot/ski/pole hire can be stored free of charge at the Scheiber shop which is great as we didn't have to battle with the ski equipment on the bus each morning/evening! Dorf Alm is in a quiet location too which suited us perfectly - we needed a good nights sleep with all the skiing! Obergurgl is a truly fantastic place for skiing with plenty of realistically priced places to eat for lunch (not like the French Alps who seem to charge extortionate prices)! Many people we spoke to return here every year - a testiment to Obergurgl! Very family friendly resort.

“Excellent Family Stay over Xmas”

Just returned from the Dorf Alm having spent 7 days there over Christmas with my wife and five year old. I can't recommend it strongly enough. Just returned from the Dorf Alm having spent 7 days there over Christmas with my wife and five year old. I can't recommend it strongly enough. The place is full of rustic charm with lovely small restaurant and great rooms. The breakfast is Austrian style and is plentiful and half board comes with a two choices for the evening meal (vegetarian and normal). Ski bus stops a 50 metres or so from the door and its a short walk to the Hochgurgl lift. The owners was friendly and laid on a lovely five course Christmas eve dinner. Only observations would be that like many Austrian rooms there was no coffee or tea making facilities in the room.

We stayed for one night and as a family of 5 we had room 6. For older kids it's a great room as the 3 kids ages 5-11 slept on a mezzanine above us. “Lovely room!”

We stayed one night at the Dorf Alm, on our way to another destination. We stayed one night at the Dorf Alm, on our way to another destination. The hotel from the outside looks like a typical local building and has an adorable chapel just outside, like 8 steps from their entrance. We were given room n.8 (which we guess is normally combined with room n.7 to become a family room), which was adorable: not particularly big, but spacious enough for one night, with a lovely balcony and a roomy bathroom. The whole room is covered in wood and it really has that mountain feeling. We also loved the ceiling windows bothin the bathroom and above the bed, which gave extra light and an original aspect to the room. As in all chep Austrian hotels no soap and shampoo are provided so don't forget to bring your own. The room was very clean, even though we sadly found some hair in our sheets, so we guess the laudry service could be slightly improved. The breakfast was ok, not huge, but respectable, with all you could need really, and served in the lovely Stube on the groundfloor. We had dinner at their restaurant on the evening we arrived and we must admit the food was not amazing and, even though served in a fascinating location, did not live up to the room's standards. Overall, we would stay here again without a doubt and enjoyed our experience.
