Manza Kogen Hotel provides free shuttle from Karuizawa station which made coming here pretty straight forward from Tokyo with our JR East Rail pass. My friends and I got an excellent deal that included hotel stay, lift tickets, dinner, breakfast and free shuttle bus. We were able to rent skis and ski wear at the hotel. What was really convenient was that while we were fitted with boots, etc, we were able to pick up skis at the ski rental place from the ski resort, so that we didn't need to carry the skis with us walking to the ski resort. The hot springs were wonderful and relaxing. Many pools were available in the mixed bath area. I'd suggest that the women to purchase the skirt specially for mixed bath so that you don't have to worry about your towel slipping off. I thought the staff at the ski rental place and the hotel were very nice. The ski rental staff went out of their way to help us with very little English spoken. The manager at the restaurant was really sweet and greeted guests with smile. One of the staff at the reception was really kind and gave us a ride to the local bus station because of the snow. All in all, this was a great experience at a very affordable price.

The outdoor rotenburo with milky hot spring water was by far the best onsen we experienced in Japan. There are 7 pools with different water temp and content in the mixed gender section. I was sceptical about mixed bathing, but the onsen have a rule that both males and females are wrap in towels when using mixed gender pools. So It was not embarrassing at all. Dinner and breakfast buffet have a decent spread of food. For about 7500¥ per as for 1 night stay and 2 meals, it is certainly worth every ¥¥¥. The staff who do not speak much English, tried their best to make us feel confortable. The hotel even provide shuttle bus service all the way to/from Karuizawa station, which was very convenient. Thumbs up for Manza Kogen.

Nice hotel with a mixed-gender rotenfuro that has seven different hot springs in one area, extremely amazing to dip into the rotenfuro after a long day. Breakfast and dinner buffets featured a nice spread and was reasonably priced. About a 15 minute drive away from the hotel is the highest point of Japan's national roads, an interesting landmark worth visiting. However, the road to Kusatsu Onsen bypassing Mount Shirane was closed. The Nihon Romantic Road that led up to Manza Onsen from Karuizawa is extremely fun to drive.

Very nice hotel. The staff that I met at the reception is very kind and courteous . God bless him. The hotel will send a bus to pick you up (and back)  from Karuizawa station several times a day. Make sure you contact them beforehand to arrange a seat on the bus..it may be booked full already. I bo… lisää

Very nice hotel. The staff that I met at the reception is very kind and courteous . God bless him. The hotel will send a bus to pick you up (and back)  from Karuizawa station several times a day. Make sure you contact them beforehand to arrange a seat on the bus..it may be booked full already. I booked an early bus (9.00 am to go and 4.00 pm to come back the next day .. got two almost full days of onsen soaking..beautiful !!) The hotel is a bit dated some parts of the room wall is peeling off..no aircondition either,( don't come mid summer)  there are no chairs in the room , just four beds, very peculiar. The evening buffet meal is ¥4000 per person .I had a lunch soba noodles which you will have to take a complementary shuttle bus to a sister hotel cost approximately  ¥1500..wow! Very steep. The outdoor Onsen is nice ,consist of  about six ponds . They are mixed Onsen but now they require both men and women to wear the hotel's towel when you enter area. A bit of a nuisance since you have to jiggle with it all the time and hang on to it from floating away.Using your own swim suit is forbidden..not a traditional Japanese  Onsen of old where you need to get naked .  I learned that wearing swimming trunks bought from the hotel's souvenirs shop is also allowed.Still, maybe they are trying to separate themselves from a water park by allowing you to still use only towels.
