Nagoya Kasadera Hotel

We visited the onsen connected to this hotel, Utopia Tamara, while in Nagoya. Both the men's and women's areas had at least 10 different baths, some inside and some outside. You can find the onsen by taking the JR train to Kasadera, taking the station exit towards the sports arena, and then heading for the large neon sign of a walrus bathing. The walrus sign is on top of the hotel building connected to the onsen. When you enter, head to the right to take off your shoes and put them in a locker. Then go to the front desk, where you pay and receive your wristband that has a key for a locker in the shower area. You'll also receive a small and a large towel. The onsen are separate for men and women. Normal Japanese bathing etiquette (e.g. clean yourself before you hop in, no clothing) apply. As well as the baths, there are saunas, a snow room (snow coming down from the ceiling!), a mist room with salt (I assume to scrub yourself ?), and baths with jets of bubbles. I think we paid around ¥1,800 for two - I'm not sure if the time of day alters the price. We had a great time, and we were ready for a sleep afterwards. Be aware that trains from the Kasadera station only go about every half hour late at night.

“A bit dated, noisy & average”

The hotel wasn't bad but it was rather dated. It's been the only hotel in all of Japan where I still had to use a physical key to get in. The hotel wasn't bad but it was rather dated. It's been the only hotel in all of Japan where I still had to use a physical key to get in. They claim WiFi in the room but there was only a LAN connection. We checked in a bit earlier than normal check in and got stuck with a smoking room. They did however pull through and get us a room with three beds, which is what I requested (1 trundle bed with hard mattress). The bathroom is VERY small and feels like an airplane but it's efficient if that's what you want. The hotel is very convenient to the Kasadera train station. When you exit the train there is a tall grey building with a little sea-otter character on top and RED writing. You just cross the tracks via bridge from the station, go left along a small side road, go under the large road, pass vending machines and the hotel driveway is right there. There's a Lawson's store 3 min walk away where you can pick up food and various items. During our one night stay there was a Japanese school sports team staying and it made for a very noisy evening and not very good sleep.
