We stayed in the Richmond Hotel for 14-nights, averaging ¥10,000 (US$92) per night for a Hollywood Twin room (25m2 or 275 sq. ft.) over Christmas & New Year. Parking (mechanical parking, but usually only a 2-minute wait) with in-&-out privileges was ¥900 per day. The staff were just amazing. Some of the most friendly, helpful, & patient service that I have ever received anywhere in the world! Because of the new year, a lot of restaurants were fully booked or closed, but the team were very patient to help us book our party of 9 into restaurants that they could find. There was always someone at the front desk who was fluent in English. It was also a great staging point for us to head to the ski resorts. And the duck soba restaurant next door, Kaneshime Kakizaki Soba, was a frequent favourite. The Richmond Hotel was further from the train / bus station than most of the other hotels, but was still a firm favourite that delivered on all counts!

“Clean, spacious, good service”

Stayed here one night. Was surprised with the size of the room. Bigger than expected. Very clean and new looking hotel but it’s been opened for about 10 years. Staff very polite and helpful. I needed to see a dentist and one of the front desk staff helped me book an appointment to see the dentist.

This hotel is not very close to the station. As I was driving a car, being close to the station was not necessary. I booked a comfort double room. This hotel is not very close to the station. As I was driving a car, being close to the station was not necessary. I booked a comfort double room. It is really much bigger than most double rooms in Japan. It was clean and spacious. The bed was big and comfortable. You can walk for a few minutes to find a good place to have dinner. The next morning, I walked to the station to have breakfast and visit the fish market. It took a little more than 10 minutes only. There you can visit the Nebuta House Warasse and A-Factory. It is my second time staying in a Richmond hotel. It does not disappoint me.

“Severely dated but very friendly ”

Aomori is definitely a must-stop if you're exploring northern Honshu and on your way to or from Hokkaido. Aomori is definitely a must-stop if you're exploring northern Honshu and on your way to or from Hokkaido. This dated three-star hotel, however, is not quite a must-stay, though its location is pretty convenient to both the waterfront and Aomori Station. My husband and I stayed just overnight en route to Akita, and our room was a Comfort Queen for 17,240 JPY or $158 for the night, a bit overpriced given the furnishings. The hotel starts on the fifth floor of a pretty standard office building, but it's well kept. No complaints about the front desk staff either. Even though they didn't speak a word of English, they were quite determined to respond to everything I asked in my cryptic version of Japanese. Kudos for their effort.
