We stayed four nights at the Monterey Fukuoka after spending some time in Nagasaki. Do note there are two Monterey properties in the city. So be sure to pick the right one. The closest subway station, Watanabe Dori is a very short walk away. And also within easy walking distance to all the shopping and eateries in the Tenjin area including the underground shopping area. Typical of the Japanese hotels, check-in is at 3 pm sharp. We had a large room with three beds. Size-wise, it was not an issue. Though storage was limited to one smallish cupboard (relative to room size) with the in-room safe all the way at the bottom. We had a bench like sitting area and no coffee table. There’s a table by the mirror but relatively small. In other words, working space is limited. Nevertheless, it was acceptable for our purpose. There’s a small fridge and kettle. Coffee packs can be picked at reception while tea bags in room. WiFi is fast and acceptable. The TV only has local content but there’s also paid tv for anyone that wants it. We did not have the breakfast but either went to nearby cafes or just bought at the nearby Family Mart or the even nearer 7-11. There’s even a supermarket nearby. We also found a very nice eel restaurant across the road at the basement of the Denkin building. Mr Yamato will take good care of you. Service was good and the staff friendly. A few could converse in English well enough. All in all, a pleasant stay in a room that was more than adequate for our purpose.

A very nice hotel within easy walking distance of train stations and shopping. The room was a reasonable size, with complementary water and a kettle. Tea and Coffee was available in the foyer. WIFI was free and had a good connection speed. I found the sides of the bath/shower to be very high.The … lisää

A very nice hotel within easy walking distance of train stations and shopping. The room was a reasonable size, with complementary water and a kettle. Tea and Coffee was available in the foyer. WIFI was free and had a good connection speed. I found the sides of the bath/shower to be very high.The breakfast was amazing. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

“Met most of my expectations, happy to try it again”

Good experience. Since it is a hotel in Japan, I do have higher expectations. However, it was not what I thought it would be. In the reception, there was earl grey tea! Good experience. Since it is a hotel in Japan, I do have higher expectations. However, it was not what I thought it would be. In the reception, there was earl grey tea! In the 3rd floor, there were 2 restaurants, 2 bathing areas and 1 room for washing clothing! Very spacious and decent there. The room was also fantastic. Large toilet, clean room, comfortable beds. It lacked some amenities like smaller sized slippers and bathing clothing and places to sit too. That was the only problems. Still, it did meet most of my expectations!

“Average overall”

I found the renovation a bit old style. Room lighting can be brighter. Air conditioning took longer time to cool down but eventually ok. Breakfast was good but too many people queuing up for food as we were first batch eating. Onsen a bit small.
