There are too many 5-star reviews for undeserving hotels. I do not award the highest possible rating lightly. There are a few little things that actually subtract a star, but the unexpected free bonus amenities won it back. Summary: Arrived 5 hours before check in time and the room wasn't ready. No problem checking in my bags though. Nobody speaks English in Himeji except for in the visitor center at the train station, so I gestured to a picture of a bicycle to ask where to rent one. The woman at the desk handed me 2 keys and walked me to the hotel bicycle parking lot. I hadn't even checked in and they gave me and my son each a bicycle to borrow free of charge. We had a great time every day riding the hotel's bicycles all over Himeji through neighborhoods, parks, castles, etc. Didn't spend any money on taxis. Even after we checked out, they held our luggage while we biked around town the last day. It was so nice to not worry about transportation during our trip. That won the 5th star back. Tip: The staff only speaks Japanese well (some English, but don't count on it). If you do not speak Japanese, bring a notebook computer or smart phone, connect to the hotel wireless, and use Google Translate to communicate via typing. Staff is very patient and will work with you. Pros: Very friendly staff Very clean room Very quiet Feels safe Good view of the river and associated birds, bicyclists, joggers, walkers, etc. Only one person at the front desk, but she did everything from directions, to checking bags, to bicycle loans, etc. Very nice woman. Cons: By international standards the rooms were small. The shower water does fluctuate a little from cooler to warmer. The hotel is not near the train station. Expect to pay Y1,500 to Y2,000 each direction for a taxi. Overall: If you want to see "pure" Japan, Himeji is relatively uncontaminated by foreign influences. A great place to spend a few days admiring a peaceful city in a beautiful country. It is on the bullet train route to Hiroshima and easy to get in and out of. Local public transportation is largely limited to busses. Bicycles are definitely the best way to get around if the weather permits - many of the locals use them.

“Staff is very friendly”

Nice staff and willing to help, room is clean and comfortable. The temperature of bathing water was a bit difficult to control but still ok. The river view of breakfast room is wonderful. Overall is very good.

It's easy to find this hotel. If you arrive from Osaka by bus or train, you arrive at same place. From the main bus station you can take any bus from the next list: 18, 30, 31, 32, 33, 35, 37, 38, 39, 40. You'll get off at a bus-stop with Macdonald's at right side and big Red Cross Hospital at the left. Hotel will be just across the river on the left side just 100 meters to go. If you take bus 30, get off at next stop - AOYAMA (青山) - it's just 10 meters from hotel. It's around 240 yen to pay for your ride. You cam use same buses to go to Himeji Castle and another places near Himeji Station. Good: 1) Nice location - on the bank of river, beautiful view. If you want to have a room with river-view - take twin room, not king-size. Twin room more bigger than king-size and not much more expensive. 2) LAN internet of good quality 3) There is 2 non-smoking floors. 4) The rooms have a plenty of lights! I like this very much - bright room. 5) Very quiet - inside hotel and outside. 6) Fridge, fan, kettle, alarm-clock, TV 7) You can buy porn channel on TV, but... I don't understand how to buy it. Not good: 1) No wi-fi !! Not in the room, not in the lobby. (if you are lucky, you can find some spotted wi-fi in your room from some another hotel or I don't know whom). 2) Stuff almost absolutely doesn't speak english. If you see - they just doesn't comment written on English. This not pleasant - is it a negligence, disregard of non-japanese tourists? 3) King-size bed room is too small. Twin is slightly bigger, especially if you positioned second bed along the wall. 4) Through the ventilation smoke could come inside you bathroom! 5) Bath-tabs not comfortable for using

“Overall nice, but there are some drops”

The twin room was quite spacious and the lighting at the darktime was quite good and bright. The hotel looks new and clean and makes a good impression comparing to other hotels where i stayed. What i didnt like is that the staff at the reception hardly speaks any english. So its hard to explain so… lisää

What i didnt like is that the staff at the reception hardly speaks any english. So its hard to explain sometimes what i want. And also there is no wi-fi in the rooms. Which is a big minus for a traveller. I liked they have an extra charge porn-channel though havent worked out how to pay for it yet.
