“Wow”

WOW! This ryocan (it's a Ryocan, not a hotel..so keep that in mind before booking) is fantastic. The staff is very friendly and the food is something extraordinary. There are some stairs to climb to get there, but the view is worth the 'effort'. the private onsen is definitely a plus. 5 stars

Excellent location, minutes from the Itsukushima Shrine and waterfront area. Inn is up a hill so hard to get to with luggage but a call ahead will have them pick you up at the ferry terminal in a minivan. They will also take you down after checking out. Excellent location, minutes from the Itsukushima Shrine and waterfront area. Inn is up a hill so hard to get to with luggage but a call ahead will have them pick you up at the ferry terminal in a minivan. They will also take you down after checking out. Very large traditional tatami rooms with great views of the surrounding hills or down to the water and the Shrine (costs more). More than ample room for our family of two adults and two teens. Modern building with traditional ryokan style rooms. Unlike a true ryokan your dinner and breakfast are served in the dining room but the meals are great in quality and quantity. There is public baths one of which you can book privately for 30 minutes. We took a room with in suite bath with shower which were adequate for us. The room and the inn in general are looking a bit faded but everything is well maintained and very clean. Great for a taste of the ryokan experience with modern amenities.

So many good things about this place. Great meals, wonderful private bath, spacious and traditional rooms, proximity to the waterside, and very attentive help. So many good things about this place. Great meals, wonderful private bath, spacious and traditional rooms, proximity to the waterside, and very attentive help. I also love that they will come fetch your bags and deliver you and your bags at the end.I would warn you about a couple things, though. Come hungry. That dinner is huge and you won't get your money's worth if you don't. Also, arrive early-ish if you want to get the private bath. It's first come first serve, and by the time we checked in at 6 PM, the spots we could use after dinner were already gone. And lastly, dinner times are very limited. Don't come at 6 PM hoping to eat at 7:30PM. It ain't happening. The latest we could do dinner was 6:30 PM! And finally, if you plan on using the baggage delivery service, sign up early! Good spots disappear! One more thing, if you can't reserve a room, keep trying. I just kept a link in my browser to the reservation page and tried it every day. One day, voila, it opened up!

“Wonderful Staff But High-Price for Dated Facilities”

Pros: views overlooking the bay, top-notch front desk staff, nice multi-course dinner and breakfast, traditional Ryokan feel. Cons: tatami floor mats to sleep on were quite uncomfortable (maybe they're old?), gloomy bathroom, facilities were pretty dated and there were wall/door and furniture stain… lisää

Pros: views overlooking the bay, top-notch front desk staff, nice multi-course dinner and breakfast, traditional Ryokan feel. Cons: tatami floor mats to sleep on were quite uncomfortable (maybe they're old?), gloomy bathroom, facilities were pretty dated and there were wall/door and furniture stains in our room, it felt overpriced at over $800/night for a family of two adults and two children based on our other stays in Japan.
