We enjoyed a wonderful three-night stay at the Courtyard by Marriott Kyoto Shijo Karasuma. Our family had 3 rooms, the rooms were quite compact with limited space for unpacking or luggage storage, but they were immaculately clean, well designed, and highly functional. We especially appreciated the in-room pajamas, which were a thoughtful and welcome touch. We enjoyed afternoon tea and visited the coffee shop, both of which were very pleasant experiences. The staff throughout the hotel were consistently friendly, courteous, and helpful. We did notice that the hotel operates with a number of clearly defined rules. For example, guests who have not purchased breakfast are not permitted to join family members in the breakfast area, and food items—such as a bag containing a pastry—are not allowed on the foyer seating tables, even if not being consumed. Instead, designated tables outside the restaurant must be used. While I am comfortable following rules and was happy to adapt, it did take a day or two to become familiar with these expectations. The hotel’s location is excellent— steps away from the Shijo station on the Karasuma line (which also allows access to the Hankyu line without leaving the station), the perfect location possible for exploring the city.

Perfect place to stay when visiting Kyoto. This is a new and attractive hotel with comfortable rooms. We loved the shower room. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location is the best reason for tourists to choose this hotel. Located steps away from the Shijo station on the Karasuma line (which also allows access to the Hankyu line without leaving the station), this is the most central location possible for exploring the city. We had excellent weather, but this would be a huge bonus on wet days. We usually try a different hotel with each visit to a city, but it will be hard not to make this our regular accommodation in Kyoto. Thank you!

“Great location near the subway, restaurants and shops.”

We had a great stay at the Courtyard Kyoto. The hotel is steps from the subway. If you have luggage, you may want to use the elevator located near exit 4. The rooms are clean and quiet. We had a great stay at the Courtyard Kyoto. The hotel is steps from the subway. If you have luggage, you may want to use the elevator located near exit 4. The rooms are clean and quiet. We enjoyed breakfast each morning at the restaurant located at the front of the building. There is a washing machine on the second floor and a coffee and tea station in the lobby. The Courtyard front desk personnel are friendly and knowledgeable.

“Solid accommodations with easy access to Kyoto Station.”

I booked a king room as a Titanium member. I don’t recall a significant category upgrade. The room was clean, neat, and more than sufficient for me. I booked a king room as a Titanium member. I don’t recall a significant category upgrade. The room was clean, neat, and more than sufficient for me. As I’d expect of a Courtyard, definitely more than a local business hotel and not a full Marriott or Westin experience. Any couple or other solo traveler would be more than comfortable here. The hotel itself, as the name indicates, is located by Shijo and Karasuma stations. Pretty central location with easy access to Kyoto station and you can even get to Osaka through the Hankyu Line. There’s a pretty simple lobby area and a restaurant. Breakfast is not included for elite members but there is a discount and a further coupon as a welcome amenity option. It was a good breakfast buffet with western and some Japanese options. I had a nice stay. Pretty good location, rate, and good facilities all provided a nice experience. I wouldn’t mind staying here again.
