“Excellent hotel with spacious room and good facilities”

We stayed here as a family of 3 in a triple room in April 2025. We’d just spent a few nights in a tiny hotel room in Tokyo so we’re delighted with the large room and 3 spacious beds in this hotel. We stayed here as a family of 3 in a triple room in April 2025. We’d just spent a few nights in a tiny hotel room in Tokyo so we’re delighted with the large room and 3 spacious beds in this hotel. It’s well situated for Kyoto station (walkable) and right opposite Umekoji subway stop which makes it super handy for getting around. There’s a Family Mart under the building and a 7-11 store five minutes’ walk away, which was great for picking up breakfast items and snacks. There’s also a Starbucks adjacent. The room facilities were good (lots of toiletries etc, good shower, excellent deep bath that we all enjoyed after a long day’s sightseeing, hairdryer), and it was useful to be able to borrow hair straighteners (at no charge) from reception. We also appreciated being able to use the hotel laundry - great to be able to refresh clothes halfway through the holiday! We’d used a luggage forwarding service to send our large suitcases ahead from Tokyo a couple of days prior, and they were in our room when we arrived. We felt that the hotel was clean and quiet, staff were very helpful, and would recommend. If you have kids - there is a great play park a couple of minutes’ walk from the hotel entrance in Umekoji Park which our 7 year old loved, and it’s adjacent to the excellent Kyoto Aquarium. A good choice all round! It’s a way from Gion district but I actually preferred this area rather than being in the thick of the heavily touristed area.

“Lovely hotel, close to train station”

Easy access from the train station. Reasonable size room, with a toilet separate from the bathroom (which I like). Room has two seats and a small table. Family mart in the building is convenient and the Starbucks in the park area in front of the hotel is open late. The park in front of the hotel… lisää

The park in front of the hotel is a lovely spot to sit and chat to the locals in the evening.

Great hotel and amenities. Onsen was amazing especially the ability to track the traffic via the TV in the rooms. The rooms were super spacious and pristine. Great hotel and amenities. Onsen was amazing especially the ability to track the traffic via the TV in the rooms. The rooms were super spacious and pristine. Breakfast spread was decent and as expected. Remained mostly unchanged throughout our stay. Location is a bit of question mark. Convenient for ones who plan to get around in taxis but not the best when it comes to public transport. The station is merely 200m from the hotel which is such a bonus. However, where things go south is the frequency of the trains, one in 15-20 mins for a single stop journey to Kyoto Station and then having to change to go to your destination. We mostly took taxis after realising the time we are having to wait for trains is the time it takes in the cab end to end. Overall good experience, area around is quite dead. Didn’t come across any good cafes or restaurants. People travelling with kids, the aquarium and train museum is a plus along with a convenience store that is attached to the hotel. Royal Park has other properties too so might look into one that’s more centrally located.
