“Very warm welcome ”

This is a real Ruokan experience. The staff was very nice with us and our small baby. The location is great with nice views to the Uji River. It is great to have a Ryokan experience and, althought the bathroom facilities are a bit antique, i would recommend this place to stay in while in Uji.

“Along the river in Uji”

We stayed in Uji for 4 days at Seizanso. We used it as our base of operations for visiting Kyoto during the cherry blossom season, and we didn't really have any idea what Uji was when we booked. We stayed in Uji for 4 days at Seizanso. We used it as our base of operations for visiting Kyoto during the cherry blossom season, and we didn't really have any idea what Uji was when we booked. For those who don't know, it's a lovely, quiet, tea-centric community on the banks of a river. You'll be greeted at check-in by a tea and a sweet. There are numerous kaiseki restaurants around, and other ryokans, tea-houses, shops and cafes. It's really an incredibly relaxing and chill area. The ryokan is clearly on the larger side and less of a "family bed and breakfast" feel than other ryokan, but the service is still excellent. The decor is slightly dated, but the place itself is immaculately clean. There's a large public bath on the bottom floor with a huge tub(a pool really) and very hot water. The location is on the picturesque river, and and it's literally 1 minutes walk from the riverfront area, with shops, restaurants, shines, Byodoin temple(a beautiful thousand year old temple) and mature cherry trees. We stopped and took pictures of the blossoms every time we walked through, finding a different shot each time. The only major issue I had was that there is currently major construction going on in the riverbed just outside the property....very loud with literally boulder hauling and heavy earth movers. This is not the fault of the hotel and I'm sure their not happy about it, and it won't be forever either. Being as it's Japan, they start and stop at reasonable times and there's really no reason to be in your room during the day with all there is to see.

“Cross-year at Uji”

This is the second consecutive year to stay with Seizanso for my year-crossing trip in Kyoto. This is the second consecutive year to stay with Seizanso for my year-crossing trip in Kyoto. Althought the decor was a bit dtaed but I was impressed by the services and food last year so I have great expectation this time. It turned out to be nice still but not as good as last year. We stayed for 2 nights and got a very cold street facing room. The air-conditioning is not working very well and the corridor was freezing. Asked for room change but the ryokan is full. They arranged us to change to a river facing room on the second night and that was much warmer and the river view was amazing. We have dinner and breakfast at the dinning hall and the food was superb. It seems like there was a shortage of manpower (not sure if that only happens during the new year holiday) so the services was a bit less responsive, yet all staff are great and helpful. The public bath is spacious but without view and it would be better if they could make the changing area warmer. Seisanso was close to the Byodoin and shrines and It was a good experience to visit the temples and shrines for celebrating the new year like the local. Uji is a quiet choice if you wish to have a quiet cross-year holiday but not sure if we would choose to return to Seisanso in the coming year.
