Stayed in a Kumamon room, which is delightful for Kumamon fans. Nice rotemburo on the roof with great view of Aso. However the sign to the rotemburo was not very clear. Stayed in a Kumamon room, which is delightful for Kumamon fans. Nice rotemburo on the roof with great view of Aso. However the sign to the rotemburo was not very clear. Exit the lift and it’s the door on the left. Went into the indoor bath instead. It wasn’t very big. Only realized where the rotemburo was while waiting for the lift. Food served for dinner and breakfast was just ok.

The lobby could do with an upgrade, staff is really courteous, Japanese rooms are large and clean but the outside hot spring is super and the fresh salad and tomatoes at breakfast are straight from heaven!

After traveling throughout northern Kyushu for seven days, staying here was one of the highlights of my trip. I chose Aso Plaza Hotel as I was traveling solo and many onsens do not offer rooms for single travelers. However, I got a large single room with a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains. I also had the best night of sleep, which I attribute to soaking in the shared outside bath before bed. Pros: Helpful staff, good location, well-maintained facilities and rooms, a huge variety of delicious foods, multiple indoor and outdoor baths, comfortable bed/futon, view of the mountains from the 2F women's outdoor bath, easy check in and check out. There is also a free shuttle to/from Aso station. Upon arriving in Aso, I took the public bus to the onsen, but was able to reserve the return shuttle to Aso station the next morning. Cons: The cypress bath on the roof was closed the entire time I was there (evening and the following morning), however I had a nice view of the mountains from the 2F shared outside bath. If you don't understand or speak some Japanese, it might be difficult to ask questions at the front desk. There was one staff member who spoke some English, but most of our conversation took place exclusively in Japanese. At dinner, the menu was only in Japanese, which was expected but just something to check beforehand if you have any food allergies or special requirements. I also had a smoking room as there were no non-smoking rooms available. However, everything smelled clean so I did not notice any residual smoke smell the entire time I stayed there. Despite limited English, this was a popular onsen for visitors from South Korea and China. I'm sure that visitors from any country would enjoy their stay here.

we stayed for only one night, the hotel itself was nice, although a bit old, our room was nice with a great view, very comfortable, the only thing that we did not like much was the smell in the room, it gave my husband asthma ( it smelled like a barn ), also opposite our room was 2 japanese guys sm… lisää

we stayed for only one night, the hotel itself was nice, although a bit old, our room was nice with a great view, very comfortable, the only thing that we did not like much was the smell in the room, it gave my husband asthma ( it smelled like a barn ), also opposite our room was 2 japanese guys smoking and their door was open and you can hear them talking, so it was no fun, none the less we were able to explore aso thanks to all the friendly staff who helped us. breakfast was great too.
