“Good location, big room and new”

This is going to be longer review than I expected. Was worried that the hotel and rooms were old and dirty from some reviews but surprisingly it was not. Managed to get a room with good pricing. I requested high floor, corner, away from lift lobby and castle view which they were able to accommodate except corner room. Room was spacious and had everything I need. Downside was that there was no do not disturb sign to hang at door handle. At exactly 5-10 mins after check out time at 11am, the housekeeping starts knocking on the door to ask about housekeeping. It was kind of annoying as I only wanted them to come at 12 noon. My guess is you have to call reception to let them know your preferred timing so they will not knock on the door until the time that you have stated. Loved the shower as it was strong. Also they provided bath salt which was a nice touch for baths. Parking was expensive at 2,000 yen for multiple entries from 130pm to 1130am next day. You need to bring the ticket to get it stamped at reception and pay the fees. As it was central location, there were lots of dining, 100 yen shops, pharmacies, convenience stores and Don Donki nearby. Will definitely be back to stay at this hotel in Kumamoto again.

“Good place to stay in Kumamoto”

Good place to stay in Kumamoto. Although the room was a bit small it is convenient. And super clean. Located in the middle of multiple shopping centers and about 15 minutes walk from the Kumamoto castle. The breakfast was very good. The stuff is very friendly and efficient.

I have been staying at Hotel Nikko for the past seven years. Recently, I stayed at Nikko for three months, from August to November 2024, as a Fulbright scholar with the U.S. State Department. I look forward to returning to Kumamoto and staying another three months at Hotel Nikko to continue my Fulbright research. I can recommend no other place to stay in Kumamoto. Hotel Nikko has the most attentive customer service and impeccably clean rooms, with the most breathtaking view of Kumamoto Castle, especially when lit up at night. My extended stay at Hotel Nikko was greatly appreciated by the phenomenal and superb concierge service Ms. Yamada san gave, who helped me “live” in Kumamoto so effortlessly. I can list everything that she did for me that helped make my life as a foreigner go smoothly: arrange luggage transport to airport/hotels; mail packages to the U.S. online; schedule bus service online; locate my missing luggage in Miyazaki; schedule endless appointments and reservations; escort me to the bus with an umbrella during heavy rain; assist with JR train schedule – Yamada san went above and beyond with her attention to detail. Her support made my stay at Hotel Nikko truly memorable. I began most mornings seeing Ms. Fujiki’s (housekeeper) warm smile at my door, and she also took good care of me. Hotel Nikko is in the heart of Kumamoto, with the buses/trolleys right in front, the Tsuruya Department Store across the street (with the best bakery downstairs and lots of eateries), two arcades filled with restaurants, shopping boutiques, and an upscale grocery market. Kumamoto Castle is 10 minutes within walking distance, and Suizenji Garden is not far away for a peaceful afternoon of tea sitting on tatami mats. The Sakuramachi Bus Terminal is a 15-minute walk, and the JR Kumamoto Train Station is only miles away – both filled with great shopping, restaurants, and a grocery store. There are many excellent hidden cafes and authentic Japanese restaurants surrounding Hotel Nikko. I only wished the hotel had a gym and more English-speaking TV channels in the room, but Yamada san helped me locate a nearby Pilates studio. Other than that, I can truly say that Hotel Nikko is my home away from home, and there is no other place I would stay in Kumamoto.

“Disappointing”

The room was clean but dated. Very small room. Close to castle and public transport. We were on our honeymoon, we did not have a view of the castle. As suggested by other reviews, I asked for a Castle view room and they wanted to charge an extra ¥30000 for a room with a view for 3 nights. Very disa… lisää

The room was clean but dated. Very small room. Close to castle and public transport. We were on our honeymoon, we did not have a view of the castle. As suggested by other reviews, I asked for a Castle view room and they wanted to charge an extra ¥30000 for a room with a view for 3 nights. Very disappointing service. Every other hotel we stayed at on our honeymoon went above and beyond, leaving us beautiful notes of well wishes in our room.
