Slightly dated room but the onsen and breakfast make it worth the price. This was our luxury treat during our family Japan trip. The welcome tea and cheesecake was a nice surprise and gave us a chance to enjoy the luxurious lobby area (free coffee is available during mornings and evenings). The room - our first ever tatami mat room - was slightly smaller than anticipated and the decor seemed a little dated (I thought from the 90s but apparently the renovation was in 2012?). But as we were looking for a traditional feel, it didn't matter so much. What made the stay worth paying extra for was firstly the onsen, which was a great experience for us to try for the first time, and secondly the stunning set breakfast, consisting of around 10 or 11 little dishes, all carefully prepared with distinct flavours. It must be the ultimate Japanese breakfast. Both nights we stayed there was also live jazz music and a marshmallow bbq toasting which children loved. All in all, the little extras made the stay worth the money. Make a note of the hotel shuttle bus times as this is a useful way to get to and from Toba station. Don't miss the vending machines in the basement level too, which sell local dairy ice creams, milk and yoghurts.

This is a beautiful property. We stayed in two different rooms. Room 307 overlooked the water towards the town of Toba. It was a room with a western style bed. The room was so beautiful with shoji screens covering the windows and wide plank cedar on the ceiling. The bathroom was well equipped with toiletries and nice skin care products. As we booked this hotel with only a few days notice we were unable to stay in that room for the duration of our visit and then moved to room 310, a Japanese style room that was the biggest room we had in our entire stay in Japan and we stayed in many large rooms. It also overlooked water but over a road. It did have a lovely view of the pond below. The lobby and grounds of this building are beautiful. The lobby is gorgeous with views over the water. When you arrive to checkin you are greeted with a drink and a slice of delicious cheesecake. What a nice reception. The breakfast in this hotel is served in private dining areas. The food was incredible. My husband had the Japanese breakfast and I had the western option tailored to my vegetarian diet. The pottery dishes that each item is served in were photo worthy. What a delicious feast! As they don't have a wide variety of vegetarian options, it was suggested that we eat the next two breakfasts at their sister hotel up the hill. Their buffet had plenty of options to please my meat eating husband and my vegetarian diet. The view from this venue is also gorgeous. Having the option of eating at both properties was much appreciated. There is a shuttle that goes from the hotel to the train station although it's not a very far walk if you're just going into town or out on a local train to explore. Don't miss taking a day trip to Kotai Jinju (Ise Jingu Naiku, Inner Sanctuary). We were so disappointed to find this stunningly beautiful park and village on our last day in the area as we would have loved to spend more time here. The park is so beautiful, especially with Fall colours in full form. There were two places that took my breath away in Japan and will hopefully be imbedded into my brain forever. One was Kyosan and the 1.5k walk through its heavily wooded lantern lit path and it's 200,000 shrines in the cemetery and the other was this park just outside of Toba. A must see. Incredibly beautiful.

“Wonderful stay, everything was perfect!”

A great experience, we had the deck with the private onsen and a beautiful room. WE were there on our honeymoon and they did a wonderful job - setting up swan towels on the bed and gave us a real flower bouquet and cookies on our table! Wonderful service! A great experience, we had the deck with the private onsen and a beautiful room. WE were there on our honeymoon and they did a wonderful job - setting up swan towels on the bed and gave us a real flower bouquet and cookies on our table! Wonderful service! We had dinner and breakfast here which was traditional japanese multi-course meal. It was great and we even got a special honeymoon dessert! Overall was a wonderful stay and we will definitely be coming back!
