We stayed here 1 night after doing the Tateyama-Kurobe alpine route. The hotel is well located a short 3 minute walk from train and bus station. There are Lawson's and 7/11s nearby as well as a multitude of dining and shopping options. There is a new place just opened which I can't remember the name of which has the Matsumoto brewery upstairs and you can enjoy a beer and food on the balcony - very civilised. It's an easy 15-20 minute walk to Matsumoto Castle which is very enjoyable. Great photo ops. Hotel staff were nice and helpful. Wifi worked well (always a plus when you are booking/researching on the go). Room was quiet and comfortable on the top floor. I believe there are bikes available which would be great but unfortunately we were only there the one night.

This hotel has a great location. It's a 3 min walk from the station (when you exit the station, you'll see a Lawson shop... take the road on the left of that shop then take the first right and the hotel is on the left hand side - do not take the big road opposite like my family and I did, because we totally got lost and took us half an hour or so to eventually find it). The hotel staff speak basic English, but they are so friendly and helpful ... they even upgraded our room without extra cost (awesome)! The Matsumoto castle is about a 15 min walk from this hotel, and there are many shops and eatery nearby also. The hotel also offers free WiFi (always a bonus) which you have to plug in yourself... they also kept our luggage for the day when we checked out.

“Friendly staff, good budget hotel”

This is not a new hotel, you can tell from the overall condition of the furniture, carpet, fittings etc. But still, if you looking for a good budget place to stay for a night or 2, this maybe a good choice. This is not a new hotel, you can tell from the overall condition of the furniture, carpet, fittings etc. But still, if you looking for a good budget place to stay for a night or 2, this maybe a good choice. Only 3-5 mins away from the train station, plenty of eateries around the area, walking distant to Matsumoto castle. Room wise,we booked a triple room which is spacious enough for us to open up all our luggage on the floor. The staff speaks basic English, we did quite a bit of shopping and the staff helpfully gave us strings, scissors and tapes so that we can tied the extra boxes. They even let us extend our check out time to 12pm, much appreciated.

The hotel is a small budget hotel situated 2 minutes from the Matsumoto Train Station in a quiet side street. Staff are very pleasant and professional - check in and out took a few seconds each. The hotel is a small budget hotel situated 2 minutes from the Matsumoto Train Station in a quiet side street. Staff are very pleasant and professional - check in and out took a few seconds each. Room is tiny, neat and clean. Comfortable bed, cant say the same about the pillow. Bright clean bathroom with the the necessary amenities. Shower and small but deep sit up tub. Limited selection at breakfast. Summary - if you are looking for a clean low priced hotel with no fancy expectations - go for the Mor Schein. Certainly worth the price.
