The inn’s heart is its people, their hospitality, care for the inn’s traditions and care for the guests. I stayed here with my mother and girlfriend for two nights, and we were all surprised by the bubbly and kind staff members. Everyone has their own strong personality, yet they are the same in the way they express hospitality and care for their guests. Yukawaya is a family-run business, and it’s history dates back many generations. Many generations that they have been learning the craft and passing it on to the next members of the family: such is the authenticity of traditional Japan. I especially enjoyed speaking with the grandmother, who despite her old age and tiny frame is always full of energy, making jokes, and wearing a smile. Meals here are delicious and express the local foods of Yoshino while delivering courses that never fail to surprise, sate, and fill your belly. Even the inside of the ryokan feels unique, with small circular hallways, beautiful decorations, and an attention to detail that can’t be missed. If there was one thing I wish was better, it would be that the bath is confined indoors and is not of an impressive size. Yet, it is a small sacrifice to make while staying at such a pleasant ryokan in the middle of such a beautiful town.

Five-star-rated hospitality! Our family was warmly welcomed by the host and hostess, who are friendly to foreigners. The ryokan is a mix of modern and traditional Japanese style with sakura motifs around. A very comfortable and relaxing stay with just around 1.5 hour away from Osaka. The ryokan is of walking distances to world heritages around Yoshino and there are local souvenir shops and cafes of Japanese desserts like matcha and tofu around the ryokan. Our dinner was of a Japanese-styled seven-course meal served with seasonal vegetables and fish of Nara origin and their Japanese sake and plum wine were good! Strongly recommended for couples, friends or family who are seeking for a relaxing stay in Nara Yoshino area🌸 Will definitely come again!

The first thing you will notice when arriving is the beautiful Japanese interior, complete with lots of sliding doors (shōji), tatami mats and wooden walls. The first thing you will notice when arriving is the beautiful Japanese interior, complete with lots of sliding doors (shōji), tatami mats and wooden walls. The rooms are pretty spacious and have a big window which gives some impressive views of Mount Yoshino (Yoshino-yama). Speaking of Yoshino-yama, most of the food they serve for breakfast and dinner is made from local ingredients that grow on this mountain. The meals consist of many different dishes all perfectly cooked. Some flavors might be a bit challenging for foreigners, but it really contributes to the whole Japanese experience. In your room you will find a yukata, which you can wear to dinner and walk around in. It is comfortable and makes you feel a bit Japanese. The staff is very kind and some of them even speak English. They also gave us some tips to make our stay even more exciting, like going to the morning ceremony at the Kinpusenji temple, which was a unique experience. The only thing about this ryokan which can be improved in my opinion are the showers in the rooms, which are kind of hard to get to the right temperature and there is not much water coming out. Although this might not be a major issue since there is also a public bath. An other point worth mentioning is that they will pick you up and bring you back to the station with a small taxi bus. This saves you a half hour walk up the mountain. Overal we really enjoyed our stay here and I hope to come back to this ryokan sometime soon! Cheers from us four Hollanders!
