During our recent Kyushu trip, we spent two nights at the Seaside Karatsu Hotel. We drove from Fukuoka with a rental car. Arrival at the hotel was swift and our luggage was whisked away. There is ample free parking available. Check-in was also quick and the staff in general speak good English, so communication is easy. We booked a luxury twin room in the East Wing (directly on the hotel webpage) which was huge at 62m2, very clean and well maintained. It boasted great sea views even from the shower / bathtub. There is also a daily welcome cake served in the lobby. The onsen facilities in the East Wing are modern, well maintained and very clean. The onsen baths are, as usual in Japan, separated for men and women and there is a common space with pools. Do not miss the thermal pool (36 degrees) on the rooftop floor! Great sea view from the 8th floor - and a spectacle during sunset. We took a taxi in the evening and dined at a Izakaya in Karatsu (Tsukomo - recommended as well) and therefore only sampled the ample breakfast buffet with mainly Japanese options. To note, I believe we were the only Western guests on the first day and maybe another couple on the second day. Sleep was great. You could hear people passing in the hallway but it did not disturb us. So, all in all, we had a great time and at least for Europeans, this hotel provides great value for money.

“Amazing beachfront hotel with HUGE rooms.”

We stayed at the Karatsu Seaside Hotel/Resort for only one night but WOW what a place - we should have stayed for 3! We stayed at the Karatsu Seaside Hotel/Resort for only one night but WOW what a place - we should have stayed for 3! After 25 trips to Japan the rooms are the most spacious I have every stayed in - without doubt. The main living area, the separate bathrooms/shower rooms and the huge balcony all had amazing 180degree views across the azure bay and down to the infinitely pools. The bar fridge was full and all drinks complimentary. We unfortunately only stayed over night so didn't use most of the facilities. The dinner buffet was extensive and brilliant including the local specialty odorigui squid brought to your table. Will definitely go back for sure.

“East wing is a must stay!”

We chose this hotel as part of a stopover, so we could visit nearby Yobuko (to eat squid). Looking at the Japanese travel sites, it was unclear to me what the difference was between the east and west wing, but I'm so glad to have chosen the east wing which turns out to be their newer addition with … lisää

We chose this hotel as part of a stopover, so we could visit nearby Yobuko (to eat squid). Looking at the Japanese travel sites, it was unclear to me what the difference was between the east and west wing, but I'm so glad to have chosen the east wing which turns out to be their newer addition with premium amenities such as a communal onsen bath by gender and a co-ed rooftop thermal pool/bath that you can go to in your bathing suit. This hotel appears to be owned by DHC, which is a Japanese cosmetics manufacturer because everything in the hotel bears their brand. The nice thing is that their products are very stellar and they are readily available. The communal bath is particularly well stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body soap, facial wash etc. They also have a full spa facility with steam and dry sauna, aromatherapy rooms etc It was also a pleasure to have access to the beautiful baths and pool almost exclusively. We spent a lot of evenings after dinner soaking on the rooftop, listening to the sound of the waves. The hotel is about a 30 minute walk away from the center of the city, but it is a beautiful route that takes you past the castle. The entire experience far exceeded my expectations. Highly recommended.

“Nice hotel with good onsen”

Stayed for two nights here. Room is very spacious with sea view balcony. The best part is the onsen at hotel, with different treatments. Food is average. There is a convenient shop in 5 minutes walk. Think it will be better to visit during summer time.
