We had read mixed reviews on this but still went ahead. The staff were excellent. The room was excellent (804). If you are looking for action this would not be a good choice. Saw very few people in the lounge and virtually no-one in the restaurant (in fact we cancelled our reservation at this highly rated restaurant as we did not want to eat alone in the beautiful but empty space) The fitness facility was smaller than our room so if you are looking for a decent well equipped facility this is not it. The major critique we have (which is 100% in the control of the hotel) was the spa. An important reason for our visit was to relax in a winter spa. When we arrived we asked for a spa appointment and were told that it was closed for reconstruction!!! We did see the small massage room next to the exercise room and saw no signs of construction. OK maybe it was going to be done somewhere else in the property. However we should have been told this at the time of the reservation (which was through American Express) and certainly in the numerous reminders we received prior to the trip. We give this 4 stars because of the ambience, the room and the staff but the negatives listed above might have taken off one of the stars.

Iconic Old Montreal hotel in a gorgeous building (originally a bank) with great service. Some rooms are on the small side, drapes do a good job at blocking light, decor is tasteful. Mini-fridge, Nespresso coffee maker, free bottled water with turn-down service, free wi-fi, limited cable TV, luggage rack, dresser, closet w/ safe, robes/slippers, no microwave. Comfortable bed (sheets could be softer), squishy pillows. Nice bathrooms with a full complement of toileteries. Narrow entryway could really use some wall hooks. Unfortunately, the overheated rooms do not respond to lowering the thermostat; the staff will promptly unlock windows, but that doesn't always help depending on airflow/cross drafts. Daily newspaper delivery available, front desk will change currency quickly.

“Historic and lovely”

My husband and I stayed on a Monday night for my birthday. We checked in at 2 and I had a facial in the spa at 2:30. The facial was fantastic with great ambiance. My husband and I stayed on a Monday night for my birthday. We checked in at 2 and I had a facial in the spa at 2:30. The facial was fantastic with great ambiance. My husband had lunch at the bar at XO. He had the club which I enjoyed half of after my facial. Prices reflect the hotel class but portions were good. We booked through AMEX and received a great deal with dining credits, an upgraded room and breakfast which we took as room service. Delicious! A Hollywood movie was on the last day of filming in the hotel and the service elevator was out so the crew was slowing the elevator down but a great memory for our night getting a few glimpses of the setup on the floor of filming. The room was clean, well stocked and staff was excellent and friendly. We dined in XO for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed our meals and cocktails and our server was excellent and attentive. We would definitely return for a special pampered day and night.

The architecture of this small hotel is quite spectacular rooms are interesting and well decorated the only problem was the service example:the staff seemed uninterested- at the restaurant, there were 3 waiters chatting with each other while we were waiting for a menu for 15 minutes
