The hotel is located within walking distance to the metro, about 10 minutes on foot. The local food area 百家村路 is just round the corner. Here is where the locals would have their meals and is better than the walking street of Xiamen city. The room is spacious, housekeeping is good. A large number of TV channels but hardly any English programs. WiFi is tremendously weak. The front reception, and staff are great. Service personnel is helpful. Gym and laundry is there for use by hotel guests.

“Comfortable Stay”

Stayed here for a night for business. Found it very comfortable and spacious. There is greenery and not too close to the busy streets but yet not too far from amenities. Generally my take is similar to most here. Clean and quiet rooms. A/c worked ( a relief!) breakfast buffet is excellent and varied - as is the dinner. Staff friendly. Maybe not as Westerner friendly as big chains. The one definite downside was that the WiFi is barely usable. Business travelers… lisää

Business travelers - or those who just need/ like WiFi - will get frustrated I didn’t get to the botanical gardens but liked the small park more or less opposite which had an interesting series of statues

“Decent good hotel”

Stayed 1 night with family after arriving at xiamen. It took about 20 minutes by taxi from airport to arrive. It is a decent hotel. Breakfast spread was good. Had a good night sleep. Overall no complaint.

The City Hotel Xiamen is conventiently located in walking disctance to subway station, to main shopping street, to lively fish and seafood market and other places to see and to walk. Breakfast is full of choices from all around the world - from European style cheese and sausages to Malay special food, lots of Chinese hot and cold dishes, loads of delicious cake and whatever you wish for a rich breakfast. 70 yuan per breakfast - very reasonable. We stayed twice at the hotel as we did an intermediate trip to Fujian tulous. First stay: hotel room with no cupboards, no wardrobe, no bathtub, no carpet...how to do Yoga exercises in the morning...overall: the charme of a youth hostel - which is a unpleasant surprise as the elegant hotel entrance seems to promise a good stay. Second stay: as I am able to communicate in Chinese language I insisted to have now a room with a nice big wardrobe - no wardrobe forced to live with all belogings either in the suitcases or distributed on the floor... After some discussions in Chinese this time we were given a room in the same building (Building 5) - and what a surprise: it was a real reasonable hotel room with nice furtniture , enough space for personal items and clothes, cupboards and wardrobe, wow - carpet on the floor - good for Yoga...and a bathtub. Suddenly this was the style I expect from such midprice location - same price. Hence, learn some Chinese before you go to this hotel, English is not spoken, indicate early when you are not pleased with the room. And enjoy the excellent breakfast!
