I stayed at Howard Johnson Changsha with my husband and daughter for three days after a tour to Zhangjiajie. The service we received was phenomenal from our very first day. A member of the management team, Miss Wang, helped us switch rooms when I asked. She was exceptionally attentive to our needs and was polite, understanding and patient. In a developing city and at a new hotel, her service was truly first class. She even took special care to see that we received a takeaway breakfast on our last morning before our early flight, before the breakfast kitchen opened. I was also impressed by the hotel’s dining facilities and waitstaff. Their continental breakfast contains a wide range, and the attention to detail second to none - having ordered a coffee on the first morning, I was very pleasantly surprised to find the same waiter remembering my order the very next morning, and after that. We were also treated to stellar service at the Riviera Restaurant, where all staff were friendly, professional, and very attentive. I was so impressed that we dined there twice during our short stay. Having stayed at other passable but unremarkable hotels in Changsha and Hunan before and during our ten-day tour, I can truly say that this hotel stands head and shoulders above others. I highly recommend it. Thanks to the staff for a great stay - you really made all the difference!

“Exceptionally NIce Hotel”

The facility itself is very spacious, and the location isn't too bad. The hotel room was very large (we had the usual standard room, but we had an indoor balcony thing). Only two issues occurred. The facility itself is very spacious, and the location isn't too bad. The hotel room was very large (we had the usual standard room, but we had an indoor balcony thing). Only two issues occurred. When asking for the al carte menu (for room service) they didn't seem to understand. No menu for room service existed apparently (and yes, I asked in Chinese). The second thing would be, and I do understand why, customer service was a bit low. Not too many friendly smiles from the service counter, however if I had to deal with what they deal with, I wouldn't smile much either (meaning the maddening rush of pushy angry people all day). Anyways, I would stay here again easily. The beds are fabulous!

“Best hotel during the 7 days tour”

This is our first night in Changsha, China. We went through the back door because front door was under contraction. This is our first night in Changsha, China. We went through the back door because front door was under contraction. We received upgrade room first night with two bedrooms and large living room and large shower area. Last day before we are leaving the tour, we got smaller room. Over all this place is the best hotel during this trip, it located at small shopping center, there are many small restaurants and eatery places in the shopping center. It only cost $5-10 pp for a meal. Hotel provide great breakfast, but some breakfast area has smoking odor.

Changsha is an up-and-coming city in China, and so, I didn't have much expectation when I was booked into the hotel. To much my amazement, it's luxuriously appointed. It's more aligned with Western style 5 stars hotel with marble clad lobby, plush interior, staff with a proactive and friendly attitude. The room itself is vast: comprising of a separate living room (endowed with a gigantic LCD panel), and a bedroom. There's also a balcony which is unfurnished. From the set up, it's apparent that it is a managed apartment, meaning, investors purchase the apartment and then, have it managed by a corporation as an accommodation facility. Investor will subsequently be rewarded with capital gain (if any). The tell tale sign is the balcony, where there's a water outlet that's geared for washing machine and dryer (not provided). By the way, there's also another LCD panel in the bedroom as well. Buffet in the morning ain't that shabby either with a good selection of Chinese and Western food. That being said, if you happened to be having your breakfast at the same time as other tour groups do, you might be hard pressed to find yourself a table and the queue for food might be long too. That being said, you won't be shortchanged here. It's genuinely good. Commendable stay. One other thing, WiFI is strong too, and you needn't password to access it.
