“Town hotel, not near ZJJ national park nor Wulingyuan NP”

Rooms: mid size rooms. After fitting in beds for 3 adults, there was 1m walking space around the beds. Rooms: mid size rooms. After fitting in beds for 3 adults, there was 1m walking space around the beds. The room had 1 super-King-size bed (bigger than normal king size) and a foldable bed for the 3rd person. The mattress is very firm. The TV had only China stations, with one of these in English. Internet in room is free, though it is slow and not reliable (i.e. on and off). An electric kettle is provided, and some tea bags. The mini fridge is not stocked up. Attached toilet: moderate size. The shower is fixed inside/above the bath tub, and not in a separate stall. Hot water is reliable. There are hair dryer and weighing scale. Room and toilets are clean. Breakfast in hotel: limited spread. Very limited and unappetizing Western food. Chinese food is of moderate to low standard. Carpet in the dining area is tired. When to choose this hotel: This hotel is in Zhangjiajie (ZJJ) city, very near (2 - 5 km) to airport, railway station and bus station. It is also the base to visit Tianmenshan national park (note: not Tianzhishan, which is in ZJJ/Wulingyuan national park). We stayed here to catch a 6am flight out of ZJJ. Otherwise, it is better to stay at Wulingyuan district (1st choice) or ZJJ village (2nd choice) to visit the main national park. Location: situated at a relatively busy road/junction, beside a clean and calm river. Within short walking distance from hotel are restaurants, shops and other commercial activities. It is 1 block from the main shopping drag, which has a few supermarkets, departmental stores and cheap eateries. Our Chinese driver asked us to avoid the small and quiet lanes. Queitness level: from our room, we cannot hear the street noise. However, we could hear neighbours closing doors. The aircon makes some humming noise, so light sleepers may be affected. Tianmenshan national park: The entrance to the park is within ZJJ city. It is the cable car station, suppossed the longest cable car ride in the world. The ride passes over homes, agricultural fields, reservoirs, then into the mountains. The mid-station is for visit to Tianmendong (a gigantic hole in the rock) and top-station is for the view and trekking. At the top station, there are at least 3 trekking routes, where you can get away from the crowd. Views are spectacular, and well worth the trek, which is generally flat with few steps. The mountains are slightly different from those in ZJJ/Wulingyuan national park. The top station also has food, drinks, toilets, etc. It's like a small village. Tianmendong: get off the cable car at mid station. Take an internal shuttle bus that goes through > 60 hairpin turns. At the end of the ride, you start climbing up 999 steps to earch a huge hole in the rocky mountain (Tianmen dong). After feeling like a hero, walk down the 999 steps, go through 60 hairpin turns in the bus, and ride the cable car back to civilization.

“nothing special”

Slept for 3 nights in this hotel. Pros: comfortable bed, quiet room, various menu of breakfast cons: staffs cannot speak english, only have 1 elevators, we must walk to another building to take breakfast, no free wifi internet at room and internet cable doesn't work.

“Simple but liveable”

We spent one night at this hotel. The room is clean and simple. Almost with little frills. Do beware that items like the usual small bottles of shampoo and body lotion, toothbrush, etc are chargeable (hence the need to read the bedroom notices carefully), so unlike the other hotels we stayed in … lisää

Do beware that items like the usual small bottles of shampoo and body lotion, toothbrush, etc are chargeable (hence the need to read the bedroom notices carefully), so unlike the other hotels we stayed in while in Hunan. In terms of location, it is not near to any interesting attractions to visitors like us (from overseas).
