“Excellent hotel for business travelers”

We had a very comfortable stay at new era Nanjing .. We booked the hotel through agoda.com ... Very good service .. Only problem we faced is communicating with hotel staff few were able to speak good English otherwise service is excellent . We stayed in block b which has twin beds . Located in the… lisää

Located in the Cbd of Nanjing so closer to many other facilities . Overall very good

“Good location and value”

Booked for double bed but assigned a twin room. Rapidly relocated in an upper floor to a bigger and recently refurbished room in a contemporary style (Queen Deluxe room I think. Excellent location to move around Nanjing in one of the main commercial areas. Not all the staff speaks fluent English bu… lisää

Booked for double bed but assigned a twin room. Rapidly relocated in an upper floor to a bigger and recently refurbished room in a contemporary style (Queen Deluxe room I think. Excellent location to move around Nanjing in one of the main commercial areas. Not all the staff speaks fluent English but they are kind and attentive. Breakfast has no many Western options, which I personally don't mind, but the even the Chinese selection could be largely improved. Generally speaking is a good option for a very reasonable price to stay in Nanjing.

“Centrally-located, perfectly good hotel (no problems)”

The New Era Hotel is really two hotels a few yards apart. The main hotel is a large standard 4-star business hotel (white gloves, bellhops, concierge, etc.) on the streetcorner; it is where taxis will drop you off. The New Era Hotel is really two hotels a few yards apart. The main hotel is a large standard 4-star business hotel (white gloves, bellhops, concierge, etc.) on the streetcorner; it is where taxis will drop you off. The sister hotel two doors down is a small standard 3-star tourist hotel mid-block. The two hotels share a single computer system, so if you arrive at the wrong one they'll know and escort you to the correct one. Both have 24 hour desk staff, but the 4-star side is definitely one star more attentive and luxurious than the 3-star side. For example, the 4-star hotel provides the China Daily newspaper (in English) while the 3-star hotel has only Chinese-language newspapers. I stayed at the 3-star side. The hotel was clean and comfortable; no real problems. It had the usual minor hiccups -- e.g., the taps were installed backwards so that hot was cold and vice versa -- the but the staff were friendly and helpful and did their best to answer questions despite limited English. My room had both ethernet (wired) and wireless internet access. Both worked perfectly fine, though as always in China many websites were delayed or blocked due to the all-pervasive Chinese firewall. Perhaps the best thing about this hotel (these hotels) is the location. It is adjacent to Nanjing University's original downtown campus and the accompanying bohemian (by Chinese standards) student neighborhood, with funky (by Chinese standards) cafes, bars, and restaurants. Nanjing's main shopping district is within easy walking distance, 15 minutes straight south on Zhongshan Road (the road the hotel is on). It is also about 15 or 20 minutes to the Jiming Temple, one of the best sites in the city. The temple has a good, cheap restaurant with outdoor seating and a fantastic view over the city lake. Hardier walkers will also enjoy the circuit walk around the islands in the lake ... I was especially impressed by the Bonsai museum. The lake is wonderful. Lazier tourists can take a taxi to and from the lakefront. Not to be missed. The hotel will call you a taxi but it may be difficult to get a taxi back (if you don't speak Chinese), so if you plan to take a taxi in one direction take it out and walk back. The hotel is half-way between two stations on subway Line 1, very convenient for tourism but a bit far to walk with luggage. The taxi from the Nanjing Station, however, is relatively cheap. From the airport it may make sense to take the train into town to Nanjing South Station, then take a taxi from there.

“Good location for University”

Large, slightly dated hotel, very conveniently located for Nanjing University. The centre of the city (insofar as Nanking has one) is about 25 minutes' walk. Rooms are traditional, convenient, and clean, though slightly dilapidated, and air conditioning is a bit hit and miss. The shower and toile… lisää

Large, slightly dated hotel, very conveniently located for Nanjing University. The centre of the city (insofar as Nanking has one) is about 25 minutes' walk. Rooms are traditional, convenient, and clean, though slightly dilapidated, and air conditioning is a bit hit and miss. The shower and toilet works well. Clothing storage space is a little restricted - in standard rooms there is no drawer provision. Rooms have tea making facilities. Mosquitoes can be a problem though rooms are equipped with electric mosquito deterrents. Breakfast is a generous and diverse buffet, though if you are expecting a range of western options you will be disappointed, and will probably settle for omelette, toast and coffee. The restaurant is OK though negotiating the i-pad menu is a strenuous task. Staff are friendly and helpful, and some speak more than sufficient English.

“Too hot in the night destroyes better rating”

Actually we were quite satisfied with the hotel: small, but nice rooms in a good quality, good site and healty food for breakfast (ok, not so much things for foreigners, but anyone who likes chinese food will be satisfied). But what totally destroyed a good rating was the temperatured in the night.… lisää

Actually we were quite satisfied with the hotel: small, but nice rooms in a good quality, good site and healty food for breakfast (ok, not so much things for foreigners, but anyone who likes chinese food will be satisfied). But what totally destroyed a good rating was the temperatured in the night. Although we powered of the heating from the beginning, the room was still totally hot in the night...to cool it down was not possible...and the room only had a very small window, which we left open all night. The reault was: still too hot and also so noisy that we had a terrible night!
