“Exceeded Expectations, but Still... Very Old”

I did not have high expectations (hence the title) when I chose this hotel. Positive reviews are few and far between, rates are abnormally low for a Crowne Plaza, and even the pictures online are not all that appealing. I did not have high expectations (hence the title) when I chose this hotel. Positive reviews are few and far between, rates are abnormally low for a Crowne Plaza, and even the pictures online are not all that appealing. When I arrived, I wasn't surprised - this hotel is showing its age. Lobby felt old, hallways felt old, rooms were okay but were also visibly old. Even the building itself looked tired from outside. However, I surprisingly didn't have a lot to complain - check-in was friendly and seamless, and throughout the stay I was happy with the service I received. And although Shenyang is a big city, this hotel has an unbeatable location, central to all major points of attractions and minutes away subway stations. Housekeeping was responsive, and did a great job keeping the hotel clean albeit its aged look. Food was good, restaurant service was not perfect but more than acceptable by China standards. All around I think this is a great hotel, but judging by how the adjacent Holiday Inn that was owned by the same company closed its doors, I am not optimistic when/whether a renovation would actually happen - I genuinely hope I'm wrong because it would be a shame to see this hotel go.

“It is starting to look a bit tired”

Nice enough hotel, room was ok but is starting to look quite tired and in need of a renovation. Helpful staff, I didnt dine in the hotel. Located central enough and it is easy enough to get around town. Crowne Plaza do try to be 5 star and maybe once was.

I think the hotel may have been full as the staff found me an entire suite that clearly hadn't been used for a while, as it was very stale until the aircon had done its stuff, and clearly needed a redecoration, but as it was for the standard room price, I was happy. Price didn't include breakfast, which I took outside as it was 100 RMB, plenty of restaurants around, good for an evening meal too. I'd consider other hotels before this one if I came to Shenyang again.

“Not bad not great”

I’ve been to this hotel several times. Most recently was this month. The front desk staff are very helpful as is to be expected with this brand hotel. The rooms are dated and have a bit of a funky smell at times. The biggest benefit of the hotel is the pool. It’s small but it’s fun for the kids. … lisää

I’ve been to this hotel several times. Most recently was this month. The front desk staff are very helpful as is to be expected with this brand hotel. The rooms are dated and have a bit of a funky smell at times. The biggest benefit of the hotel is the pool. It’s small but it’s fun for the kids. The other Crowne Plaza in town is waaayyyy nicer and newer but has no pool! If a pool doesn’t matter then go with the nicer hotel. The location has a Dunkin Do it nearby for those who care and it’s centrally located. Overall for the price it’s not a bad hotel just not great. Within IHG portfolio are the Holiday Inn express which is really nice and inexpensive and the other crown plaza which is nicer but lacks a pool.
