I was a little perturbed by a few issues with the room at first, the design is a little awkward. Not much storage, a drawer didn't open because they'd put furniture in the way, the tub was in a small room of it's own, the shower in another and then a big area unused between them and the toilet/sinks. We had a room with a massive private outside area, which was nice for morning coffee or a beer later on, but when the drapes were closed we couldn't walk around the bottom of the bed and had to go around the back (where the aforementioned wasted area was). The AC was broke and they sent someone to fix - they didn't - so next day had to talk to manager, and they figured it out and fixed it and were very apologetic. BUT - once I got used to it, it was actually a great hotel. They have a bean to cup coffee machine, which I've never seen in a hotel. The beds were decent, the sleep was great, the AC (when it worked) and the location is pretty much perfect with a short walk to the restaurants, bell or drum tower, muslim area, etc. And for those earlier risers, get to the market on the south wall which is about a 10m walk from here, and be amazed and enthralled at the vegtables, tofu, and everything they're selling, and grab a breakfast here. It runs from 6am and I think done by 9am. A good hotel - and I would stay again.

“Nice Hotel, Limited English, Rooms Too Hot in Winter”

The location is okay. Across from the inner city wall and a 10min walk from the Yongning Gate (the big south gate) and the subway, and a 20min to Zhonglou (the big central bell tower). The location is okay. Across from the inner city wall and a 10min walk from the Yongning Gate (the big south gate) and the subway, and a 20min to Zhonglou (the big central bell tower). As of Nov 2025, the address doesn’t ping on Apple Maps or Google Maps, but it’s relatively close to the Atour Hotel. The atmosphere is tight and clean with families staying here. The lobby is small and efficient. The breakfast area is spacious and the buffet has a decent amount Western food though it’s bent towards Chinese food. The staff speaks limited English, but can understand my rudimentary Mandarin and gesticulations, though you may want someone who speaks Mandarin in your party. The rooms are clean and well laid out. The bathrooms and towels are very clean. The biggest issue with the room is that there is no in-room temperature control despite there being a thermostat. In November, the room is often swelteringly hot when we return. The thermostat claims it’s between 25~27°C (77~81°F) but it feels hotter. When coming in from weather that is 7~13°C (45~55°F), it’s like walking into an uncomfortable sauna. The staff’s recommendation was to crack the small window in the room and turn the air conditioner to fan-only mode. The window was too small and far away, and was often covered by the heavy curtains, to get any cold air into the room. The fan-only mode only pushed more hot air into the room. So the room remained hot. On the first night, the hot air was particularly dry, and we woke up with parched throats. We requested a humidifier, which the hotel has a limited number of, and which eliminated the dryness, but didn’t help with the heat much.

“Nice hotel let down by breakfast.”

The hotel feels new and modern and in an excellent location. The bedroom was a very good size and comfortable. There were two negatives - the air conditioning did not cool the room effectively. But the main problem and has made me think twice about using this hotel brand in the future was the weste… lisää

But the main problem and has made me think twice about using this hotel brand in the future was the western food options. The bread and breakfast pastries were inedible - I have never seen such dry bread and actually quite shocking that the staff allowed these to be set out each day. Definitely not worth spending the money on breakfast.
