I had only one day here so I didn't make it to the golden summit. Wrong decision. Anyway, there are still historic and magnificent monasteries to behold slightly above the mountain foot. Nice fair hiking trails through bamboo forest. Monks and nuns are in residence to do their daily work. There is a guest house where 'Chieng Kai Check', a famous political figure in the past, lived here in room no. 8. You can stay here too, but maybe too cold in winter since there are no heaters. At the mountain base there is a museum displaying what the golden summit looks like. The figure of a golden Buddha riding a white elephant in full scale is situated in the hall centre, in case you cannot make it to the summit to see the real one. Nice and quiet on the whole trail and you can try local produce from hill tribe merchants available on the walking route.

“A night visit”

We took a tour 2 days 1 night tour from Chengdu, visiting Panda Research Centre, Leshan (Giant Buddha) and Emeishan. We spent a night at EmeishN Garden City Hotel. Hotel was situated out of town. No shops around or nearby. Check in and out were fine. Staffs at reception and restaurants were fine.… lisää

We took a tour 2 days 1 night tour from Chengdu, visiting Panda Research Centre, Leshan (Giant Buddha) and Emeishan. We spent a night at EmeishN Garden City Hotel. Hotel was situated out of town. No shops around or nearby. Check in and out were fine. Staffs at reception and restaurants were fine. As we could speak fluent Mandarin, we did not encounter any problems while staying there. We had 2 rooms. Rooms looked fine with simple modern decoration. Bedsheets had some stains. Toilet ceiling had stains. They only gave tea bags ( no coffee nor milk/creamer). We also had dinner after we check in. Breakfasts were included in the room rate. Food there was only mediocre.

This hotel has some good points but only if you are a domestic traveller. Foreign tourists are not catered for. Foreign credit cards are not accepted (the total bill had to paid upon check-in, in cash!); the staff only speak Chinese; the breakfast buffet is totally Chinese except for the toaster, w… lisää

This hotel has some good points but only if you are a domestic traveller. Foreign tourists are not catered for. Foreign credit cards are not accepted (the total bill had to paid upon check-in, in cash!); the staff only speak Chinese; the breakfast buffet is totally Chinese except for the toaster, warm orange squash or flat cola! The room is a very good size, but their is no room safe in which to lock away passports etc. The balcony looks very nice, but due to two nearby (static) lakes, is un-useable due to mosquitoes. At this time, the nearest shops or restaurants are a couple miles away, but I am told that when the development is completed, it will be the complete package. Until that time you have to take taxi's to the city and the drivers usually charge you extra because they are having to drive out of the city to pick you up. The building itself can only be a few years old, but Chinese quality control is evident; the restaurant ceiling was badly water damaged in places, from the rooms above (we suspect our room or the adjoining room), with water occasionally dripping from the light fittings. While we were there, the cold water was shut-off (all day) twice for the on-going construction work in the area and the toilet blocked up once. It could be a very nice hotel and probably is for Chinese tourists but Foreign tourists should look elsewhere, for the time-being.
