“Half term heaven”

Booked seven days with youngest son at the Alpina to escape dreary February in UK. Was initially attracted by the Kinderhotel affiliation and the ski area. The hotel is very well appointed and has an excellent location, within 20m of the lifts. drove from Munich (don't forget to allow double forecast time for traffic) and the arrival was very easy, turned into underground car park and didn't use car at all after that. Room was ready for us, spacious and welcoming, a tiny bit dated, but had a view of the mountain and the piste outside the balcony and was typically Tyrolean. Bathroom had two vanities etc, decent toiletries and all very warm. I booked without realising I had opted for full board and the whole package was excellent value. The hotel arranged ski-depot access and lift passes, the meals were very good (some exceptional) the waiting staff were attentive and helpful, happy to engage, etc. The public areas are very well appointed and a good blend of contemporary and heritage. The bar is a nice spot to relax and the public spaces well maintained. My son loved the pools, two indoor (one relaxed and one with slide, etc) and an outdoor infinity pool with Jacuzzi. There is something very satisfying about being outside in a heated pool under a freezing sky, surrounded by snow covered mountains. There are also PCs and a games room for kids and separate menus if they're not up for adult food. The ski area is vast, with a great range of pistes and loads of offerings for food and drink on the mountains. You would need at least two weeks to explore all the terrain. The interconnected villages all offer a slightly different view of the area and there is good canon cover, well groomed pistes and good lift infrastructure everywhere (typically gondola or bubble lifts with heated seats and automatic safety bars). I'm not sure how typical it is, but we had 5 days out of 6, with not a cloud in the sky, 3-8 degree highs and awesome skiing. Highly recommended and better value than other Austrian Tyrolean holidays I have had

“Stayed 14 days here”

We have stayed in this hotel for 14 days (3 adult couples). We liked: - the facilities (lot of sorts of saunas) and the pools (outdoor and indoor). We have stayed in this hotel for 14 days (3 adult couples). We liked: - the facilities (lot of sorts of saunas) and the pools (outdoor and indoor). Really a place for sauna fanatics. - the food (breakfast and dinner)- great variety. It never felt boring despite 14 days there. - fantastic pastry, cakes options - the hotel is charming and kept its Austrian character with specious rooms and a beautiful woden bar. We disliked: - the location- this hotel is in the middle of nowhere, facing a busy main road. This hotel is not in a village where you can take a stroll in the evening and have a drink/eat in other hotels nearby. Kossen village is 20 min away by walk from Alpina H. You are trapped in this hotel most of the time, unless you are willing to drive in the evenings or take the buss to reach other village/s. - the hotel is surrounded by grass fields- where the smell of cow faeces and urine is unbearable in certain days. The grass field close to the outdoor pool and terrace is the smelliest one. Really bad smell. - the lunch is way too salty- specially the soups, few main courses. Not for people on a low salt diet. - the flies, insects, wasps (lots of them)- which made the sun bathing at the pool or eating outside in the evenings impossible. We all got severely bitten by all sorts of flies/wasps. Overall impression is that this is a good hotel- and can be great if not that many flies/wasps at the outdoor pool or terrace. Not recommended for a longer stay as pretty isolated, especially if no car.

“Terrible experience”

We had a very unpleasant experience at this hotel and will definitely not return. While we were at the restaurant, our boy started crying and the staff asked us to leave the restaurant. I have never experienced anything like this and I don't understand how a hotel could impose such a rule. Although… lisää

We had a very unpleasant experience at this hotel and will definitely not return. While we were at the restaurant, our boy started crying and the staff asked us to leave the restaurant. I have never experienced anything like this and I don't understand how a hotel could impose such a rule. Although, the hotel seems to be mainly geared towards Austrians, Germans and other German speakers, which is reflected in the lack of information in English. The is not available in English at the spa, at the restaurant and all the signs and instructions are written in German only, so it was quite difficult to understand what services are available.
