I stayed in Aktaion, Agistri for 5 days/4 nights. My (double) room was not in main building next to the swimming pool, and I quite liked it because it was quieter (there were always kids in the pool). The room had everything I needed: a comfy bed, a fridge, a jacuzzi, a coffee machine, and a nice balcony with a table, chairs, and a rack to dry clothes. Slippers and toiletries were provided; a robe was not. The breakfast was simple, but overall very good, and I could find everything I needed to keep me full for the day (eggs, Greek yoghurt, veggies, fruit, pastries). I didn’t not use the facilities (the pool, gym, spa). The gym looked quite small. If you wish to work out, it may not be sufficient. The hotel location is amazing: close to restaurants, beaches, a mini market, and a Skala port. I had a bit earlier check in and later check out. It was very kind of the hotel’s manager. A few things that were not particularly great: 1. The WiFi wasn’t strong enough to stream movies or have a video call. For me, it wasn’t a big issue. 2. The hairdryer wasn’t strong enough either. 3. It’s mainly a family hotel, so expect kids crying/screaming sometimes even later at night. 4. Coffee is extra charge during breakfast (fyi, 4 euros for americano).

We spent 3 days here as part of our Greek holiday and it was the perfect place to stay at the end of our trip. The location is perfect, with frontage on to the beach. We spent 3 days here as part of our Greek holiday and it was the perfect place to stay at the end of our trip. The location is perfect, with frontage on to the beach. Rooms are lovely and spotlessly clean. In addition, every member of staff is excellent- friendly and helpful, particularly when our ferry was cancelled on our last day. They checked the timetable and organised a taxi for ourselves and other guests to the alternative port so we could get to the mainland in time for our flights. A 10/10 experience all round.

“A disappointing experience!”

This hotel was a complete disappointment!! Having researched their website and the reviews we were really looking forward to our 5 night stay here. This hotel was a complete disappointment!! Having researched their website and the reviews we were really looking forward to our 5 night stay here. However, on arrival, my first impression walking through an empty characterless taverna / bar, having negotiated the tables and chairs, was not great! A lady then popped up from a table and took us to reception. Checking in went smoothly. However, it is worth nothing that there is no lift to the rooms and although a young man called Yanis takes your bags up, there is no such offering for you when you leave. Presumably if you asked it would be provided but also worth noting. Having travelled throughout the day, the first thing we wanted to do was shower. Alas on stepping into the shower, I discovered that one of the doors was missing a roller wheel from the top preventing the door from closing. It could also have been quite dangerous if yanked hard, unaware that a wheel was missing. We tried to call reception but the telephone that was plugged in, had no dial tone so not sure why it was there. We then had to go and find someone. Yanis, advised that the handyman was off until tomorrow so it could not be fixed. We were not very happy, Yanis then came back with someone he thought may be able to fix it (we think now it was a member of the kitchen staff). We left them to it as the room was small and it was very cramped. On returning to the room the shower had not been fixed and there were dirty boot marks all over the bathroom floor and dirty rag left on the vanity unit. Not a great first impression :( It was eventually fixed (of sorts) the next day, but was far from satisfactory. Our room was supposed to be Superior Double, but was pretty standard, and overlooked the pool, which was not really a pool, more of a plunge pool. It was full of children shrieking at all hours, which we understand is great for the parents. However, it is not so great when your room overlooks it and as a couple you cannot escape it. It is also worth nothing that when the hotel next door has live music this can also be heard until at least midnight, possibly the early hours, which when you are tired from a days travelling is also not ideal. It is also worth noting that the general noise from the bar next door can penetrate your room. Breakfast was served in the seafront restaurant, which was OK but nothing to rave about. The restaurant staff were lacking in any kind of welcoming manner and in fact came across as pretty grumpy most of the time. As a wellness hotel, we were surprised that guests were allowed to smoke in all areas including balconies, which were not private, and as non-smokers we found it difficult to escape the smoke throughout our stay, especially as the waiters also stand at the bar smoking between working. However, I understand as a smoker this may be a plus! Also, if there was a spa & gym, no-one showed us where is was, or tried to promote it in any way. There was a pamphlet in the room but why should you have to pump so hard for information about the facilities when on holiday. We did see fluffy slippers in a big bag that the cleaners presumably placed in some rooms but not others. also worth noting that they start very early n the morning and as our room was near the cleaning cupboard we were woken by them most mornings. The music which plays constantly in the restaurant is enough to drive you crazy! It is a kind of jazz cover version of swing and pop from the 1960's onwards, although we had to laugh as the whole feel of the restaurant made us feel like we were in the holiday camp from Dirty Dancing. The 'private beach' is not a private beach as it is shared by two other hotels which are almost attached to the Aktaion and is crammed with sun beds. However, there are not enough sun beds for everyone in the hotel so you have to reserve one the previous day and are charged 10 euros per day, per couple for the privilege. The biggest plus for the hotel was Nicos, who was in charge of sun bed reservations and as a young man must have had a pretty tough time some days. However, he always went out of his way to do his best and was also the waiter that served you at your sun bed with a smile. In our view, this is not a boutique hotel, it is a lack lustre medium sized hotel which misses many points that make a holiday, we would not recommend and would not return.
