This is our first trip to Greece and first visit to Athens. We are just so glad that we had chosen Altar Suites for our accommodation. It’s one of those decisions you made when traveling based on internet research that turned out to be better than expected. Altar Suites is located in a pedestrianised area of Monastiraki. It is mid way between two metro stations which gives you more flexibility. We arrived at Athens city by airport bus X95 which took us to Syntagma Square, and from there we took a slow walk passing through Monastiraki Square to the hotel. Our room was of a good size, modern design, with a square balcony looking out to the Roman Agora and Acropolis on the far side. I enjoyed the views at sunrise, during the golden hours. There is also an excavation site next door which has been fenced. The alley outside Altar Suites turned into a flea market on Sundays with street vendors selling old things such as books, coins, household items etc. It’s a very lively place. Lots of cafes and restaurants in the immediate neighbourhood. We had breakfast at 3 different cafes in the area and they all turned out to be excellent experience. The staff at Altar Suites are helpful and friendly especially Eleni. She gave us good recommendations on restaurants, helped us booked a taxi to airport and offered us practical tips. I will recommend Altar Suites if you are looking for a comfortable place to stay in Athens.

“Acropolis views unbeatable”

We chose this hotel primarily due to proximity to the Acropolis and we were not disappointed. The location is perfect and the views are spectacular, particularly at night. We chose this hotel primarily due to proximity to the Acropolis and we were not disappointed. The location is perfect and the views are spectacular, particularly at night. Room was beautifully appointed and very clean - I would say true to the website photos, what you see if what you get. Beds are comfortable, plenty of room in the bathroom. No bathroom amenities so pack moisturiser and a shower cap if those things are important to you. Definitely not a major but something I wish I had known in advance, we did find this throughout Greece to be fair. We only had two nights in Athens and only one full day for exploring the Acropolis so not wasting time trying to find the meeting point for our group tour was an absolute priority and Altar Suites was a very easy walk to where we needed to be. The hotel is located in what feels like a very safe and vibrant area, access through a little cobbled lane. Important to note this area is very tourist focused so if finding an authentic meal is important to you definitely do your research first and book ahead but wandering around at night you will find plenty of amazing locations to sit and have a drink and wonder at the incredible glory that is the Acropolis. We booked Athens: Acropolis and Parthenon Guided Walking Tour through Get Your Guide and were super impressed. Small group tour, excellently paced and well organised.

“Beautiful but Noisy”

I have stayed here twice. Beautiful rooms and good location but it is very noisy at night since it is directly next door to two clubs and a bar. I would only suggest if you plan on staying out late while in Athens. I do wish breakfast was included but it is not. The acropolis views are as advertise… lisää
