“Great Hotel for Philip of Macedon's Tomb”

Good solid hotel with large rooms (lots of triples) right near the town and museum. Limited parking but parking nearby. Nice owner. Good breakfast. You can walk to museum. 10 minutes walk to the palace. Careful - museum closed Thursday and half day on Tuesday. Theatre closed.

The whole tone of our stay was set by my phone conversation to book. My Greek is approximately equal to her English, so there was no question of deposits or anything else. I booked using my first name alone and said we would arrive about 6, as we did, to be greeted enthusiastically and shown to a spotless and large room. Directions to the museum duly given, we disappeared to see the tombs and have supper (no dinner at the hotel). The next morning, after a great night's sleep in a beautifully quiet room, we were plied with more breakfast than even we could manage. Anastasia even went out to get me some fresh milk to add to my tea, instead of the dreaded condensed milk in tiny pots. I am not surprised that the visitors' book was full of praise in many languages. This was one of the most hospitable places I have ever stayed, and I don't know why it's not packed out, at 60 euros a night including breakfast.

“WONDERFUL in every way!”

We have stayed here at Aigon several times. The owners, Vassili and Anastasia are so accommodating and friendly. The rooms are clean and spacious! They make you feel right at home! I hope to visit there again and we will definitely stay at the Aigon again!

We stayed at a bad time. Road construction right in front, and the owner/manager left early in the morning for the doctor. We stayed at a bad time. Road construction right in front, and the owner/manager left early in the morning for the doctor. It’s got nice facilities, clean rooms, it’s quiet (after construction), tea was brought to our room after sign in, and it’s easy to find. But the facility is a mouse maze, and hard to navigate. When using the shower, bubbles came up through the floor drain. There are cats everywhere; yucky, dirty, street cats, roaming the grounds, inside and out. No breakfast, because it’s after season (we were told, in mid September). The manager (owner) seemed confused, struggling with directions and guidelines, constantly mumbling just soft enough to not understand but loud enough to hear. It was very weird. And no one was there, ever. Once we checked in, it was as if we were alone in the world. Even upon departure, no one. So, would we stay here again? No. Did it meet our needs for one night? Yes. Was it a bizarre experience? Definitely. Was it comfortable? Relatively. Do we recommend? I don’t know.
