Do yourself a favour and head to Ammos Hotel on Skyros -- now! It truly is luxe (not only do you get a bathrobe, but they wash it everyday!), but it is also charming and chill. The staff are ready to help you with anything -- absolutely anything! -- while also remaining at a distance when need be. The food is particularly delicious, the breakfast buffet is always full of fun daily surprises and the pool area provides a quiet, refreshing mini oasis away from the beach, which is also lovely. I chose this hotel in order to participate at the Skyros Center writing retreat. Now that I know it exists, and that it is on Skyros -- itself a pretty special place -- I shall return. Thank you to everybody at Ammos. I will remember you fondly. Robyn from Canada

“The Wonderful Ammos hotel”

The Ammos hotel is situated among local Greek houses in Magazia, is 60 metres from a sandy beach and a 15 minute climb to Chora, the capital with the Rupert Brooke statue and castle. Chora is a hill village with lovely little individual shops and tavernas. The staff are super friendly and helpful. … lisää

The Ammos hotel is situated among local Greek houses in Magazia, is 60 metres from a sandy beach and a 15 minute climb to Chora, the capital with the Rupert Brooke statue and castle. Chora is a hill village with lovely little individual shops and tavernas. The staff are super friendly and helpful. We had a lovely sea view room with a ceiling fan and aircon. There is a salt water swimming pool and a good restaurant . Tavernas are a walk away, many with amazing sea views. There is a small taverna in the path down to the beach which has a few daily dishes. It is easy to get vegetarian or vegan meals too. A walk away is Manos. You walk through little pathways past Greek houses and they send their way along the coast past tavernas to a pretty harbour with small fishing boats and lovely views to the hill village of Chora and the castle. Skyros is a place to go to escape. We didn’t hear one English voice all week. You can visit lovely potteries and in one you can arrange to go and see a herd of Skyrian horses. We visited Rupert Brooke’s grace ti plant a little olive tree to remember a friend whose ashes are scattered there. It is in an olive tree in the South which is uninhabited. You can take a boat trip along the West coast to the South to swim near caves, spend time on a wild beach on a small island and eat lunch onboard. We found prices very reasonable too. Breakfast at the hotel was a buffet with a great variety of things to eat including local specialities.

“Nice hotel, bad smell”

Nice hotel, but the room we stayed in the afternoon had a particularly bad smell - maybe from sewer ?- which you couldn't tolerate, so we couldn't bear sitting on the terrace in front of the room.
