Breakfast included- with a good range of options Lovely clean pool Enjoyed the hotel’s bicycles for exploring the island Visitors need to be aware that restaurant prices in the hotel are steep - European rates : however there are local eateries within walking distance if you want more local and more affordable options The hotel supports local development and has built and supported a number of local primary schools

“Lovely Hotel”

We stayed for 4 nights in this lovely hotel. Our room was lovely and had great views across the Mekong River. The restaurant served great food at a very reasonable price considering how isolated the hotel is. From the hotel you can walk or cycle around the island. There are local villages to explor… lisää

We stayed for 4 nights in this lovely hotel. Our room was lovely and had great views across the Mekong River. The restaurant served great food at a very reasonable price considering how isolated the hotel is. From the hotel you can walk or cycle around the island. There are local villages to explore with some lovely people. The breakfast was great and the staff so helpful. The men who operate the boat service to and from the island in particular work so hard. We got a massage when we arrived which was much appreciated! Just to mention the bungalows are not detached and we found noise from our neighbours especially when they were in the bathroom. You can hear literally everything! Fortunately for us our neighbours were very quiet but if you had a noisy couple next door it could be an issue! In addition there was a festival on at the Wat Phou Temple when we arrived which was fortunately its last day. It was very noisy that night as the sound travelled across the water. The hotel provided ear plugs and thankfully the rest of our stay was peaceful I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel.

“A great resort in a really stunning location”

If you want to explore this part of southern Laos then La Folie Resort is the place to stay. It is idyllically located on a sizable Mekong River island (Don Daeng) opposite Champassak town, with beautiful views (especially at sunrise and sunset) across the river to the hills that rise above Champassak and Vat Phou. And to crown it all, for much of the year there is a massive and gorgeous sand beach in front of the resort where you can watch the cows and water buffalo trek down to drink in the river and bask in the sun. And you cross the sand by tractor to board the resort's boats for transport to Champassak or to Muang village (on the eastern side of the river further north). We stayed with friends in the 2-bedroom Residence villa and it was stunning and beautifully equipped and decorated. The other rooms looked pretty good too. A high point of La Folie is the caliber of the staff. Without exception they are all delightfully friendly, helpful and effective, with a ready smile on everyone's face. That goes for the gardeners, the tractor / boat drivers, the housekeepers, front desk and restaurant staff. The restaurant menu is okay, but a bit short on Lao / Asian food. We ate well much of the time, though the same dishes can be a little bit variable on different days. But the dishes are very reasonably priced for such a high quality resort. La Folie has one of the most comprehensive sustainability programs I have ever seen (you can find it on their website). It covers food sourcing locally as much as possible and extensive and demanding policies that I believe they strive to maintain. I was particularly impressed with the fact that 95% of their employees are from Don Daeng island and they clearly must have rigorous training programs given the quality of their staff. We are already thinking about a return visit to La Folie given how delightful it is in so many ways.

“An amazing place for a magical stay.”

Location is wonderful with a great view over the Mekong. The park is beautiful. Rooms are nicely set and decorated. We could enjoy the restaurant, the pool and morning yoga flows!
