If you love history, this is the right place to be. The ancient hacienda was remodeled according to its time: seventeen and eighteen century. Every single room has a topic, mine for instance was a plateresca, which means that Mexican Baroque adorn the entire room. The hacienda is located about 20 minutes from the main road, but is worth it. The restaurant offers delicious food, and the coffee is supreme. I really loved to walk around the coffee plantation, for one moment I forgot that I was in the 21st Century. The Art Museum displays "Arte Sacro". Most of the artist are from Mexico, but you will surprise to see some from around the world. Amazing experience. Highly recommended!!

If you like a bit of history with your relaxing stay, this is the place to be!! This place used to be an hacienda, the owner transformed the family's chapel into a museum of religious art (mostly Mexican artists/paintings from the XVI-XVIII century). They have a garden with carrots, celery, radishes, herbs, etc from which they create their meals! The coffee the serve is also home-grown. The furniture is from the late 19th/early 20th century (if im not mistaken)- which gives it an extra beautifully historical feel. We had the room called La Francesa. which has the original fireplace- for $100 pesos, they while come and light it for you. Food was great, service was amazing- especially from Alex and i believe her name was Monica, whom received us at the door once we drove in. It is near the lagos de montebello, but far enough of everything else, enough to enjoy a relaxing stay.

“Quiet Hacienda”

I have mixed feelings about our stay here. To preface I am a young female traveling with my parents but rented a room to myself. Pros: stunning location with a beautiful sunset. I have mixed feelings about our stay here. To preface I am a young female traveling with my parents but rented a room to myself. Pros: stunning location with a beautiful sunset. Fairly good food at the restaurant. Quiet and overall clean for an hotel hacienda. Don’t expect anything modern and updated. Think old Mexican home. Overall good customer service. Can read peacefully for hours. Cons: although this area is said to be calm I didn’t feel the safest staying in a room by myself. There is no modern lock system on the doors, all cast iron hinges and no way to lock your room from the outside or store valuables. We were told it was quiet and safe but there was a male security guard that paced the grounds every hour. I was probably being overly cautious but from traveling so much as a single young female you sometimes have to be. On top of this there were large rodents running through the rafters. All combined made for not the best nights sleep. May be a better place for others in different travel situations.

This is an update to my last review. Leonor broke her ankle when she slipped climbing into the hand-made shower. We gained the impression from the cleaning staff this fall was not the first. So we reported the accident to Alejandro, receptionist, and showed him how a simple & cheap wall-fixed handle could prevent a recurrence. We weren't particularly blaming the hotel, nor thinking to sue them (suing in Mexico? Fat chance). We were surprised we heard nothing from the hotel and on phoning Jaciel Aguilar Narvaez (reception manager) learnt: 1 Alejandro had not reported anything 2 Alejandro denied we asked him for medical help (contact with a local clinic). 3 Management disputed Leonor had been seriously injured. So folks, should you slip when visiting this beautiful hotel, know that the management ARE aware of the danger AND have done nothing about it.
