“Room noisy but would stay again”

This great old hotel is in a 1902 building directly across from one of the central churches and plazas. As such the rooms on the outside are noisy; mine was, from bars and church bells. It also served as an incredible perch to watch the city life from. However, when I stay again (which I would) I will request a courtyard-facing room which will be much quieter. Service is very good, amenities OK, room clean. Multiple parking places nearby but be careful if you have an early flight and ask when they open in the morning. Walking distance to everything. Lots and lots of people trying to sell men's shirts, I didn't know that was a thing, but now I do. Many restaurants etc. nearby.

“A Mixed Experience”

My parents and I both booked superior rooms with double beds. Pros: -Clean rooms, comfortable bed, working bathroom and room lights. Water is provided. My parents and I both booked superior rooms with double beds. Pros: -Clean rooms, comfortable bed, working bathroom and room lights. Water is provided. The staff(with one glaring exception) was friendly and helpful and provided directions when asked. Wifi works. The courtyard is beautiful. The A/C in the room works well. Location is very central. They were willing to store our bags after checkout. We didn’t use the pool so I cannot comment on it, but it looked pretty. Cons: -Our maid(Doris) was very aggressive on the two days that I needed to stay alone in the room past 11:00am or 12:00pm. I have an invisible disability, and also got sick on the second to last day of the trip, so I needed to rest for a little more than normal those days. The first time, she would not stop knocking, did not respond to in-Spanish requests to come back in an hour, claimed not to speak English, and tried to hurry my out of my room when I made the mistake of unlocking the door for her (as I thought there was a miscommunication). Luckily my husband came back and she listened to his request to come back in an hour(he is an English only speaker and she spoke to him in partial English). The second time she knocked for a full five minutes, again did not listen to my request to come back, and actually unlocked my door and left it slightly open before leaving. She then gave toilet paper, towels, and water to my dad who had come by with medicine and said she was not going to clean the room today. I am unsure why she chose to target me as she responded to other family member’s requests to come back and I had no interactions with her outside of my room. We went on early trips every other day and were gone on a short trip overnight, so we were hardly in the room all the time. -This is a historic building, so the rooms aren’t sized the same; my parent’s room was significantly bigger, while most of that space in our room was given to our bathroom. The tiles on the floor, while safe to walk on, are worn down and in some places stained. The shower is also worn down and does not drain well. The room is plastered, but there are bulges, cracks, and a few stains (to be fair, it is hard to maintain good plastering in a tropical environment). A few wall tiles in the bathroom were also damaged, and our toilet paper holder didn’t work. -No fridge, iron, or closet is provided and there is significantly reduced space to hang your clothes. My parents had a coffeemaker but we did not, so that may vary depending on your room. -My parent’s room did not have mosquitoes, but ours did. However, they fumigated the room when we complained and it seems to have worked. -Hot water is scant (but this seems to be a common problem in Yucatan hotels?) -There was some noise in our room at night, but a LOT of noise in my parent’s room. However, they did not mind as they knew that would be the case when they booked due to the location.
