“Great shower!”

We had a twin room overlooking the Square. The beds were comfortable and we had a safe for our belongings. The room had a really good shower with excellent water pressure, plenty of places to put our stuff, plenty of hot water, it was enclosed, and out of the window was a view over the rooftops up … lisää

We had a twin room overlooking the Square. The beds were comfortable and we had a safe for our belongings. The room had a really good shower with excellent water pressure, plenty of places to put our stuff, plenty of hot water, it was enclosed, and out of the window was a view over the rooftops up the hill. The hotel is in an excellent location right on one of the smaller squares which after exploring the town I thought was the best Square in town. The market is on the opposite end of the Square and has lots of good cheap eating spots. The only problem was the noise of minibuses honking and car alarms going off but that may have been because we were there just before the day of the dead celebration and the town was very crowded.

“Adequate with central location”

In all fairness, we were here for Dia de los muertos so we expected crowds, but the rooms were really really noisy and I was thankful I brought ear plugs (most of the people I traveled with did not and they were downright sleep deprived). In all fairness, we were here for Dia de los muertos so we expected crowds, but the rooms were really really noisy and I was thankful I brought ear plugs (most of the people I traveled with did not and they were downright sleep deprived). The cleaning staff was nice but the woman who owned the place not so much. She got pretty nasty with our tour guide who had rented several rooms for our stay (that's pretty poor customer service) when she asked for a bad room to be changed. It's an attractive place, a bit dated (but it's Mexico). Not sure why all Mexican establishments think that Fabuloso is such a fine smelling cleaning product (ugh). Don't make the mistake of eating here, it's awful. There are plenty of great eateries very close by. Even the margarita was a disaster! The location is right in the center of everything and most of the town is within easy walking distance. The beds have plastic covers on the mattresses that make noise when you move and make it very hot...I had to put the blanket under me to make it sleepable. It's a trade off...central location, no more than 3 stars, no english. It all depends on your priorities. Would I stay here again? No.

“Not So Grand This Time”

I will admit to begin with there may be some bias in this review because we had such a wonderful experience last year. I will admit to begin with there may be some bias in this review because we had such a wonderful experience last year. However, both of my daughters independently came to me and said "this is not the same place we stayed at last year." The location is still excellent and the rooms, if modest, are clean and well cared for. The terrace off the third floor is worth climbing the flights of stairs in order to stay on the floor on which it is located. But the vibe was very different this year. It began with our arrival. The hotel has several spaces on the street in front of the hotel that are chained off for guests of the hotel.. In past years a very nice, older gentleman has been there to move the chain and assist with parking. He was not there when we arrived. My daughters went in to check and were told that unless we could squeeze into a very small space in front of the hotel (there would have been plenty of space, but several people had parked at an angle while others parked straight of (marking spaces would be a big help) and while I might could have gotten the car in, I would never have been able to get out. The girls were told, I would have to take the care to off site parking, however, a space opened up across from the hotel so we were able to park. The next day we came back in the afternoon and there was plenty of space to park. So one of my daughters got out of the car and moved the chain while the restaurant staff stood on the steps of the hotel and glared at her. The hotel staff in the past have been cordial and friendly. And the young lady who worked the desk to day was very much that way. But otherwise it was as if they were doing us a favor by allowing us to stay in their hotel. There was a family group that arrived on Saturday night who proved beyond any doubt the walls are not sound proof. They were loud late into the night and again early in the morning. I would have thought it might just be me and a let down from the above and beyond the call service we got last year. But I talked with a couple from Houston who are staying in Patzcuaro for two weeks. He told me they had stayed at the Gran a couple of days and were not happy with it, so had moved to a hotel up the street with similar pricing but much more accommodating. I felt like I was a burden to the staff at the hotel. I will not impose on them when I return to Patzcuaro.

“Lovely local hotel”

It is not a 5 or 4 stars, but you get a comfortable very clean room, with hot shower and nice countryside decoration. The service is OK, but do not expect too much. English is not spoken. The location is perfect and there is no shortage of very tasty street food as well as restaurants and coffee-s… lisää

The location is perfect and there is no shortage of very tasty street food as well as restaurants and coffee-shops around. The market, with fresh fruits and vegetable, is on the other side of the plaza. We were only disappointed with the wifi - the internet worked fine the first day but then stopped working and they did not do anything to fix the problem. Everywhere else the internet worked fine, so I guess it was the hotel's problem.
