“Another wonderful Zar Hotel”

The hotel is located just off of Mexican federal highway 15 in Tepic. The hotel is located just off of Mexican federal highway 15 in Tepic. I had stayed at the Zar just off of highway 15 in Culiacan, Sonora in April and had a very good experience so we planned to stay here on our way through Tepic. I am glad we did, it was lovely and heading to Guanajuato on highway 15 through Guadalajara we didn't need to go into Tepic to find it. It is right on the highway, next to a Pemex past the entrances to Tepic when heading from Mazatlan to Guadalajara. Just like the hotel in Culiacan the Zar Tepic is decorated in a sort of middle eastern style with wrought iron and marble furniture and Persian carpets on the walls. There are some colourfully painted antiques in the lobby restaurant that are so special it is worth a trip to this hotel just to see them. Our room was identical to the room I had at the Zar in Culiacan in April being super clean with linens that were new and in great shape.The bed was a king and very comfortable and the bathroom was huge with a giant corner shower with a strong shower head and a built in wall seat - perfect for foot care in the shower. The wifi in the room was strong enough we had no trouble logging in with the i-pad or the lap top. The hotel had a nice little restaurant in the lobby where we had dinner. Their three course dinner special for about 90 pesos twas more than I could eat. To drink they served us ice cold, natural Jamaica infusion beverage and nice fresh after dinner coffee. After stays here and at the Zar Coliacan I will look for Zar Hotels when I travel through Mexico in the future.

“Not a Zar hotel anymore”

We stayed here again September 2, 2011. The price had gone up by $150 pesos since our stay in July 2011and the hotel longer appeared to be a Zar. The price increase seemed a bit odd because July is high season for national tourism, September 2nd is not. The name Zar had been painted out on the sign… lisää

We stayed here again September 2, 2011. The price had gone up by $150 pesos since our stay in July 2011and the hotel longer appeared to be a Zar. The price increase seemed a bit odd because July is high season for national tourism, September 2nd is not. The name Zar had been painted out on the sign and the receipt I received had another name on it - can't recall what it was and can't find it either. The decor was the same with - what I'll call - a Persian motif. The lovely Persian carpets were still hanging on the walls and the awesome antique painted and gilt furniture was still in the lobby restaurant. The bed was still comfortable and the room was clean. However, the towels in our bathroom were thread bare and there was no little sample pack of shampoo or conditioner in the bathroom this time. No worries for me because I carry my own toiletries and never use those shampoos anyway but I did note that they were missing and the price for the same room had increased. The staff were still friendly and helpful - I'd stay there again. It is a convenient location for us when traveling from Guanajuato to the coast on Mex 15.
