We are driving from Utah to Nayarit and found this gem of a hotel on our first day staying in Mexico. We are driving from Utah to Nayarit and found this gem of a hotel on our first day staying in Mexico. After a long day of flat tires and lengthy permitting and border crossing as we are towing a trailer this hotel was a find. Our room over looks the beach and we slept w the window open so we could hear the waves. The lobby and grounds are lovely old Mexican architecture and a beautiful young girl was enjoying a photo shoot in the lobby to commemorate her 15 years. The restaurant is open 7-3 so we missed dinner but breakfast was delicious. This hotel is huge with RV hook ups too. Highly recommend this place.

“Too loud couldn't rest because of a wedding at the patio til 2 am with loud live music , most rooms face the patio”

There was a wedding , my bad , I couldnt sleep , so please ask of there is going to be a wedding before making a reservation on this hotel or you won't be able to sleep Rooms are kind of nice they are big and clean but they already feel outdated but I guess it's the colonial decorations of the hot… lisää

“worth it for the view”

The Playa de Cortes boasts a storied history (mariachi music was invented here, for one), but it’s current incarnation could do with a bit of sprucing up. The Playa de Cortes boasts a storied history (mariachi music was invented here, for one), but it’s current incarnation could do with a bit of sprucing up. The faux-colonial property sprawls across a parcel of premium beach front, with an impressive cactus garden dominating the grounds both in front and in back. Rooms are pretty characterless; some are more comfortable than others, but expect a bit of funky plumbing no matter in which wing you stay. Service is friendly, though, and while the food is merely adequate, the view of the half-moon bay is divine, and the cantina a lively retreat. Don’t miss the idiosyncratic wood carvings above the bar and along the walls. The work of expat American artist Dick Wikken in the 1940s, they’re the three-dimensional equivalent of a black-velvet painting.
