We stayed 1 nights at YMH Thame on our 13 day trek from Lukla to Gokyo and back. YMH Thame is a newer property and a cut above the typical tea house/lodge that you find North of Namche Bazaar. Ensuite baths have showers, with shower curtains and plentiful hot water. And, like all the YMH properties, they have a nice Happy Hour, excellent meals and staff who are willing to please. This particular YMH has a lovely enclosed courtyard with murals; very pleasant when the sun's out. We arranged this trip through Geographic Expeditions out of San Francisco and they worked with Kathmandu Travel to make all local arrangements. A special shoutout to our guide, Tanzing Sherpa who, at age 33, is knowledgeable, seasoned and steady. He seems to know everyone in the Khumbu, gave great advice on making some changes to the itinerary when he saw our capabilities, and was a real cheerleader when bad colds slowed us down towards the end of our 13 day trek. If you plan a custom hike in the Everest region I recommend that you seek him out through YMH or Kathmandu Travel.

Beautiful atrium with a ping-pong table! Attentive service, large rooms with private bath, hot water for shower, electric blanket for bed. Beautiful atrium with a ping-pong table! Attentive service, large rooms with private bath, hot water for shower, electric blanket for bed. Three course meal for dinner, breakfast was porridge, eggs, potatoes. Happy hour with free drinks and snacks before dinner. No heat in room but they ran gas heaters in the dining area all day to keep you warm. If the sun is out, the atrium gets nice and warm. Very quiet at night. Wifi was surprisingly good considering the remoteness of the location.

We stayed in almost all the YMH lodges in the Khumbu and this one, like all the others, was very comfortable, quiet, served excellent food and had a friendly and helpful staff and manager. Please see my review of the excellent trek which was organized by YMH at the site for YMH Lukla(msaincamb). Thame is well worth a visit. The trail from Namche rolls through pretty villages and scenery and is a relatively easy walk. There is an old and beautifully sited gompa on the mountainside above the lodge and an easy walk to get there for a morning visit. If you have more time and energy you can hike to beautiful views at the summit of Sundar peak at 5200m(my son and our guide Pemba made it while I visited the gompa). Upon an introduction from Pemba, we had the good luck of meeting and speaking with Jamling Tenzing Norgay, one of the sons of the great Tenzing Norgay, who was at the gompa for a dedication of the rebuilding of the gompa following damage there from the 2015 earthquake. Our room and beds were comfortable and the views overlooking the valley and mountains were stupendous. As at all the lodges, YMH pays attention to aesthetics and this one was no exception. We're very glad we included the Thame lodge on our itinerary.
