Alta Gracia Parque Hotel

“A great place to stay.”

This place was a very pleasant surprise. It was very clean and sits on a beautiful property. The food in the restaurant was excellent - the best breakfast of our 10 day trip according to our children. The bikes could use some love, but besides that it was really nice.

The hotel is very confortable in a natural park, bicycles, walk trail, orchids, nice pool, beautiful and peaceful. The employees are very helpful. Had some cocktails and pizza in the pool restaurant, fun place. Loved it.

Alta Gracia parque hotel is 1 kilometre outside the very city centre of Caacupé, about 60 kilometres east of Asuncion (a little over 2 hours with bus, 0,90 €). Bus stop is right outside the hotel. The hard bit is to cross the road. The resort is a calm place in the middle of nowhere. Rooms are located around the pool area. Room was clean and nice but nothing extra. The balcony would have been a nice oasis if something like plants had been added and if the condition had been kept. (Now it was full of mould and mushrooms grew on the wood!) Rooms had a safe, mini bar, cupboard, desk and TV. Bed was comfortable. Air conditioning made way to much noise to be able to sleep with. Free and reasonably fast Wi-Fi. Friendly staff. No one spoke a word of English thou. We visited during low season (I guess) it was hard to find the staff that was supposed to serve in the pool bar or in the spa from time to time. Pool area was lovely. Nice big pool and plenty of sun beds. According to the hotel web page, the hotel is offering free laundry service. This is not true. The hotel charges for laundry - even thou it’s cheap (like 0,75 € for trousers/shirts and 0,30€ for underwear). Breakfast was a disappointment. Tasteless and unnecessary calories. Even the freshly squeezed fruit juices and the Cocido had added sugar. Cocido is the tea-type drink made of Yerba Mate the love in Paraguay. No tea could be found on the buffet. We tried the restaurant for dinner with a better result. Several dishes were very tasty. However, a big downside: As in all public places in Paraguay, it is totally accepted to let your kids (or yourself) watch/play on a mobile device at high volume during dinner/in the bus/at the pool area etc.

“Could have been excellent, but turned out overpriced for the service it offers”

This place is great, but way overpriced for what it actually offers. Furthermore, management definitely needs improvement. Set in a beautiful landscape, you are able to enjoy Paraguayan nature at its best. Great rooms, great pool. Great restaurant with fine dining and breakfast as well. However… lisää

This place is great, but way overpriced for what it actually offers. Furthermore, management definitely needs improvement. Set in a beautiful landscape, you are able to enjoy Paraguayan nature at its best. Great rooms, great pool. Great restaurant with fine dining and breakfast as well. However, when it comes to service, our experience was was pretty bad, especially in relation to price. There was only one person attending the pool on a Saturday, which is supposed to be a high traffic day. Thus, when asked for food or drinks, we had to wait for hours. Then they never took the plates or cups (by the way, never mind stuff like kechup, knife and fork, napkins, ice, etc., you know, the basics, which actually never came). When asked for a simple beach umbrella, the response was equally and desperately slow. After burning in the sun for like half an hour, the umbrella finally showed up. All this is very sad, because with a good management (the manager was no where to be found, except at around 5pm, when the day was ending), the place could be among Paraguay's finest. Finally, why on earth would you not have enough stock on a 40 degrees celsius day of ice cream other than the evidently left-over banana flavor from last weekend which absolutely no one wanted? My advice: if management does not improve (which would be a pity), move to one of the hotels in the nearby town of San Bernardino.
