I really liked this hotel, it is old but VERY clean and definitely has character. Front desk staff were very friendly, rooms were plainly furnished but comfortable. Nothing deluxe about this hotel, but Huancayo is an industrial city so this is probably one of the better hotels. Food was good. It seemed cold for September, but they had extra blankets available. I would definitely go back!

“A Decent Option for Huancayo”

Align your expectations - you are in Huancayo (a city with rare international tourism and a limited amount of business travellers) and the Presidente is a 3 Peruvian stars hotel. So I was not expecting much. The reception is depressing and you feel like you are in a route motel in the seventies. However, when I went up to my standard room, it kicked in - old furniture, plastic hangers, a tiny heater, a view of a dumpster and, worst of all, a broken shower head that flooded the tiny bathroom as soon as I turned it on. I called the reception to complain and they upgraded me to a VIP room which was a more pleasant, somewhat renovated and more comfortable suite (still with a view of a dumpster). However, the beds were quite comfortable and I ordered room service from the restaurant downstairs and I was pleasantly surprised. Breakfast was also good. Two final negatives: the WiFi is a mess (it comes and goes all the time and it is incredibly slow) and they never woke me up at the time I requested (I guess that is what alarms in phones are for).

“Stressful check-in”

Stayed on two occasions within a few days of each other and our first visit was very stressful indeed! Having travelled from Lima, we had been on the train for fourteen hours and arrived feeling very tired. We walked from the station and were one of the first to arrive because most people were waiting for a bus. We booked through booking.com and the reception staff could find no record of the booking, despite presenting them with the confirmation. There were four members of staff and their organisational skills left a lot to be desired! I lost count of how many times we were asked how many people and how many beds (there were clearly just the two of us and we're married!) Eventually we were told that we would be given a vip room because that was all they had and finally we were checked in. The room was huge but unfortunately it was very late and we were leaving incredibly early so didn't really have chance to enjoy the facilities. We had asked for a breakfast box because we were leaving so early but when we checked out and asked for it, the man on reception pointed towards the table where the complementary drinks are, and on it was a plate of sandwiches for us to help ourselves to!! We left our luggage as we were returning the following day and when we returned it was sitting behind reception exactly where it had been left, so don't leave anything valuable as it doesn't get locked away! Our second room was much smaller, but it was all we needed, except there was only one towel and we had to ask several times before we got another. It was quite cold in the room and there was no heater, unlike most of the other hotels we had stayed in during this trip. We were leaving quite early again but popped into breakfast about ten minutes before it started and managed to get some cereal. This is probably one of the better hotels in Huancayo, but I don't think I would rush back.

This is about as good as it gets in Huancayo. The hotel is "adequate," clean and well-located. The atmosphere is rather cold and the service at the front desk can be unreliable. This is about as good as it gets in Huancayo. The hotel is "adequate," clean and well-located. The atmosphere is rather cold and the service at the front desk can be unreliable. It looks as though the hotel is used a lot for business meetings and it is billed as a Convention Center. It's located several blocks from the main plazas along Calle Real. The buffet breakfast is again "adequate" but nothing special. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were rubbery. Our room was near what must have been a primary school and the noise started early in the morning and went on all day. Huancayo has grown tremendously, but it's not an attractive city. High rises have gone up everywhere and the traffic is terrible. The reason to visit the area is the famous Sunday market, but unfortunately we were there midweek.
