Very basic property but clean and quiet, with adequate hot water (although no hot water available at the sink). Rooms are located away from the street which definitely helps with the noise level in traffic-crazy Lima! The staff is overall friendly, although our room was not ready on our arrival which was after 5 p.m. (stated check-in time is 1 p.m.) and they seemed surprised to see us. So we had a bit of a wait while they cleaned our room and removed the luggage of other travelers that had been stored there. Also, the promised Pisco Sours on check in were not offered, I guess they were too taken off guard by our "early" arrival? The location is a bit off of some major streets but not difficult to find, and fairly convenient for access to Lima airport. Overall a good night's sleep and hot showers in the morning, reasonably priced.

I have choosen this place because it was close to the university where I had to spend 3 days. When I arrived in Peru some Peruvians told me that Magdalena is not very safe and it's better not to walk there after dark. Some other said it's not that bad, in some ares even better then downtown. So I had mixed feelings. For first 2 nights we stayed in another hotel, located on Plaza San Martin, and there I felt much safer that in Magdalena. The hotel was much much better and the price almost the same. Therefore i recommend to look for a better hotel and not to choose Hannover if you don't have to. The neighbourghood it actually not that bad and the hotel patio is small but nice. On the other hand the room was tiny, the bathroom smelled fungus and mold (quite visible on the walls...). Generally the room was cold and humid, breakfast coffee undrinkable, cheapest orange juice from supermarket and scrambled eggs floated in distasteful fat. In the room you could find the information that the hotel is not responsible for anything left in the room, not only valuable things but even for your clothes and travel bags. If you needed extra towel or any cosmethics (e.g. shower gel or hair schampoo) you had to pay for that extra. How welcoming! While leaving the room we locked the doors and closed the windows to have our things secure. When we returned the window was left opened by the person who probably was supposed to clean the room but just made the bed and brought some more toilet paper. Funny was that every day they would bring us toilet paper so at the end we had 4 rolls. Still they did not change the towels during the whole stay and the towels we had couldn't even dry due to high humidity. The two positive things about the hostel was the short distance to the university (5 soles for taxi) and the younger receptionist who was very nice and helpful. The older guy was also nice but... a little out of this world. I could only communicate with him in Spanish and that was OK for me but still did not help. For egzample I was warned many times not to catch a taxi form the street but to call and order one that is surely safe. When I asked the older guy to call us a taxi he said that we can go outside and stop one on the street, it's easy: "you just wave your hand and the taxi stops". when I asked again if he make a call he offered that he can go with us outside and stop the taxi for us. Don't get me wrong, he wasn't rude or antyhing like that, he just did not understand the security issue, while so many robes are reported by foreigners who just took the wrong taxi... Well, he told us how much we should pay and that was quite helpful. Another day, when we were going to the airport, I almost forced him to make a call, so he did and gave me the phone back. And he just went away! Then I had to explain in Spanish where exactly the hostal is (almost any taxi driver knew the address and we had to navigate for them everytime!), what's the telephone number, room number, how much luggage we had etc. I was lucky that the younger guy arrived and helped me, especially with the telephone number! It took 10 minutes and then the operator said that we will have the taxi in 30 minutes, for 50 soles (twice the regular price!). That was annoying! And to the top of that the younger receptionist said "next time if you need any help just ask one of us, we are here to help, I would call you another taxi, cheaper and faster." Oh, I have forgotten to say that the place is rather noisy.

“Affordable, but very simple!”

I found this through trip advisor and we only needed to stay close to the town center for 1 night before a very early plane ride to Cuzco. This is a very simple place and does not stand out from the street. Our family of 4 adults stayed here and it is not much to look at but the staff is great an… lisää

I found this through trip advisor and we only needed to stay close to the town center for 1 night before a very early plane ride to Cuzco. This is a very simple place and does not stand out from the street. Our family of 4 adults stayed here and it is not much to look at but the staff is great and the service was impeccable! I emailed ahead for a taxi to take us at 3:30 am to the airport and they had everything pre-booked for us and even brought us a nice simple breakfast just before we left! The price was great so we can say nothing bad about our stay.
