“Special place, wonderful hosts, perfect break”

Even at the start of the booking process, Joao couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful - pulling together an itinerary for our 2 day trip...largely focused on sampling the excellent Alentejano wines and cuisine, in some marvellous restaurants, and giving us a tour of the area around Borba, and Estremoz. Arriving at 'do Poco', we saw instantly that this was a unique and historic guest house, with distinctive antique furniture in the rooms - exactly the type of place I love to stay in! Our rooms were almost 1 bedroom terraced houses, with a small lounge area downstairs, with a large bedroom, with bathroom, upstairs - and my room had a very large terrace. The rooms were well insulated at night, with no noise, and good blackout shutters. The bathroom was small and bijou, with a very powerful shower. There was air conditioning, but I dont like to use it, and the rooms remained cool throughout the day, even when it was hot outside. And the whole place was very Covid prepared - curtains replaced with washable drapes, washed after each guest departs; lampshades removed; hand sanitiser mounted at entrance to all rooms, etc. The pool was a welcome relief from the heat of the day, in a very peaceful back yard, with loungers spaced out to avoid proximity to other guests. The breakfast was great, and Rita and Joao were very attentive in this new 'no buffet' Covid time - delivering fresh bread, freshly squeezed orange juice, eggs, cured meats and cheeses, with fruit and some delicious cakes. But really, what made the stay so memorable was the hospitality of the hosts - Joao had so much local knowledge, and couldn't have been more helpful - and both of them had so many entertaining anecdotes to share. Thanks Rita and Joao - I'm already planning the next trip, and have some wine and food loving friends who would love to come!

“Exploring Alentejo”

We stayed for 3 nights on our Alentejo road trip. Rita was a wonderful and helpful host and the room was clean and spacious and delightful. We stayed for 3 nights on our Alentejo road trip. Rita was a wonderful and helpful host and the room was clean and spacious and delightful. Finding the Casa was a little tricky and parking is a bit hit and miss but Rita helped us and also served lovely breakfasts. The casa is very convenient for many nearby attractions. If we were in the area again, we would definitely return.

We visited this BnB in August 2017. The reception by Rita and Joao was very warm and welcoming. Our 8 year daughter had her birthday during the stay, The hosts did everything to make it a special day for her. The hosts baked a special birthday cake for her/us and arranged a horseriding clinic. They also provided us with useful tips for trips in the region: visiting a winery, great affordable restaurants and much more. We can fully recommend this warm, friendly and original BnB for families with children.

“We really liked Borba and Rita”

It was tricky to find the Casa, but Rita was helpful and personally guided us there through Borba. We enjoyed our stay, but we didn't actually get the room we booked. It was tricky to find the Casa, but Rita was helpful and personally guided us there through Borba. We enjoyed our stay, but we didn't actually get the room we booked. We had booked the balcony room shown online (near the pool), but instead we got a small house with a balcony that is entered separately down the street. It was fine for 2 nights, but we realised that the room we booked was occupied by another couple with a 4-night booking. It was the end of the season, and the Casa (which includes a complex of buildings and outdoor areas) looked a bit unkempt: the garden needed attention, for example. Breakfast was OK only - it didn't vary and there wasn't much if you don't eat cheese and meat for breakfast, plus the fruit wasn't fresh. Coffee/tea wasn't hot enough, and we didn't get refills. The dining room was full of antiques, but was a bit dark and cavernous. For dinner Rita recommended some local restaurants - both were good, and we had one particularly good meal. And they were Portuguese meal portions - 2 of us couldn't finish a single meal! Plus some great Alentejo wines. We really liked Borba - it's attractive, friendly and not as touristy as nearby Elvas and Estremoz, and the surrounding countryside is lovely. We had a gorgeous drive from Monsaraz on the backroads. We also really liked Rita. We had some great chats with her. She's a sophisticated person with a terrific sense of humour. So this stay had its good and bad points - but we would certainly give the Casa another try if we were to return to the area.
