“Go for the lake”

The facilities are all a bit faded, everything seeked a bit bashed and broken, restaurants not the best, but the lake makes it all worthwhile.

We last visited Lac D'Ailette 12 years ago and not much has changed. It is one of the prettier Center Parcs and is better for the fact it is on a larger lake with views across of the French countryside. We last visited Lac D'Ailette 12 years ago and not much has changed. It is one of the prettier Center Parcs and is better for the fact it is on a larger lake with views across of the French countryside. It felt very busy; there are lots of day visitors and there are many golf carts, more so than other parcs. The swimming pool was incredibly busy unless we went in the hour before closing. The staff were friendly and helpful. The whole place could do with a bit of TLC. It doesn't look like anything has been done cosmetically since our last visit. The bottom of the swimming pool looks dirty (I don't think it actually was, just needs painting or tiling). Our cottage looked very outdated and bit of our wooden terrace had been patched/repaired. The recent drought meant that what should have been a pleasant pond outside our cottage was a stagnant green puddle at the bottom of black polythene coated banks. Food is expensive but we expected that so shopped at a nearby hypermarket. Went to the Deep Nature spa which was very small. Literally two jacuzzis (tepid, not hot tubs), a steam room, a sauna and a salt room. And not enough loungers for everyone who books the slot. It was good for four nights after a week elsewhere but glad it wasn't out only destination on our break.

Le Lac Review August 2026 We have just returned from our first week in CP with our 2 boys, used this page a lot so sharing our experience. Kids ages 6-12, all had a great time! Pool - Loads of slides and younger ones can use rapids etc with a vest. We spent hours in the pool, it was great. but rapids aren't as good as Longleat. Lazy river is pleasant but not very fun. Beach- lovely area for a few hours, although when the kids dig it gets to black sludge very quickly and smelt. Food- We went for half board as I wanted a break from cooking. but it was awful, and even saw cockroaches in the buffet most days. All restaurants had set things you could have if you were half board, even though its quite expensive to get the deal. Also the kids could only have the tiny children's meals, which meant my 12 year old was very hungry and ended up eating our meals as well. some of my meals were inedible. We didn't do any cooking in our lodge, but I think i would have struggled as the kitchen is tiny and only had a hob and microwave. The shop is not too badly priced, but obviously cheaper to get stuff off site. Lodges - I was very worried about the lodges having read the reviews and even took a portable hoover and air con with me as it sounded awful. but to my surprise it was clean and nice if not a little dated. I also read about the mosquitos at night because of the lake so i took some window covers I got from amazon and a they worked well. although i did still get eaten alive while out and about, but you are by a lake so cant complain. Our Air con unit was a life saver during the heat wave, but I can imagine the rooms would have been very hot without it. No BBQ - can buy one in the shop - we didn't . Outdoor area - quite small but safe for kids to play in and shared with other lodges in the group. Cars- everywhere which was annoying when walking about with kids . Activities - I struggled to find many activities was could do as a group as most were either 8 and older or aimed at very young. but the ones we did were good. Apparently the best was the VR and we also enjoyed paddle boarding. The pedalo was a bit boring, and the kayaks were impossible to steer. Staff - the CP staff were all very helpful and polite. The restaurant staff were nice until they realised we were half board. surrounding areas - We drove to Laon one day, and there isn't much there but it was nice to get out. We also drove to Mitry Claye and got the train from there to Paris which was really nice adventure. Overall - We had a nice time and the kids loved it but I wouldn't return to Le Lac, but would possibly try one of the other sites for a shorter period, I just dont think Centre Parcs has enough to do for that long a time.
