Overnight stay on way back from holiday. We were looking for a nice dinner and comfortable room, and selected this hotel as I regularly stay in Accor hotels, and it is conveniently located just off the main road. The room was ok for an overnight stay, relatively comfortable, although not exactly brand new. The bar/restaurant experience could have been much better, though. One of the "selling points" of Mercure is their list of good wines by the glass. First, wanting a glass of wine in a comfy armchair in the bar for apéritif, we were informed that wine was not served in the bar (???!!!) - rather ridiculous, and surely easily remedied if they had wanted to please us. So we went directly to the restaurant. Then, two of the listed white wines and subsequently one red that we would have chosen were unavailable, leaving a much more restricted choice. The waitress was friendly and tried her best, but clearly didn't know much about food or wine. The food menu offered a rather restricted choice. In the end, the food we did eat was good, and we had a decent meal. But the overall experience was a bit mediocre.

As the Hotel knew our booking was for arrival on a Sunday they might have informed us in advance that there was no bar or restaurant functioing. As the Hotel knew our booking was for arrival on a Sunday they might have informed us in advance that there was no bar or restaurant functioing. After a long drive we were looking forward to a drink and snack at late lunch time. But, nothing! Greeting from Receptionist was not at all friendly and she just said," Go to Moulins , ten minutes." The stay did turn out better than we feared from this. Poor.

My partner and I had been staying in a very quaint old private residence which we'd found through a friend when an historic heat wave descended on the Auvergne. 12th century homes not being noted for their air conditioning (or their ability to keep out bats), after two nights we decided something a little less "charming" was in order. The Mercure was convenient to where we needed to be and was much less expensive than other properties in the area. And it had air conditioning... sort of. The AC was a little asthmatic. In fact, only the person sleeping on the inside wall felt any cooler. Still, with free, accessible parking, a cozy little lounge, and a fridge in the room, this hotel served its purpose well. It's a little old and dormitory-like, but for €99/night, just fine.

“As expected”

The accommodation is fairly nice and outside of Moulins in a peaceful area. Only problem I had was my fridge did not work so the cold food I bought was ruined. Otherwise no complaints. The breakfast was nice.
