We decided to escape for a gastronomic weekend to a part of France about which we knew little. As luck would have it the weather was exceptional, so the views, breathtaking as a consequence, though the Cantal is a long way from Paris. The auberge de la tour is situated in the middle of a quaint, quiet Auvergnat village surrounded by cows and forests. Reservation was easy by telephone, with a welcoming voice, and the description of the establishment in its website was utterly accurate. The renovations were nearly finished and the rooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated, with a particular mention for the comfort of the beds. The only negative point was the lack of a shower in our room, where a jacuzzi was installed. A jacuzzi is nice but less so if one wants to refresh before dinner. We opted for the 8 course tasting menu the first night, which met all expectations of a Michelin started restaurant. Our wine was well selected by the attentive sommelier. The second night, we were not hungry, as we had been invited for lunch, but nevertheless the chef/owner made us a special soup. This was a lovely touch as I can only imagine how busy the kitchen becomes on a Saturday evening. Breakfasts were simple but delicious and comprised a selection of local products. The bread served at breakfast and in the evening was to die for! The best surprise as we left was the bill - outstanding value for the quality of cooking and comfort offered. Go there before it becomes too popular!

“Breathtaking experience”

An incredible place to stay and to eat. The room was large, original, in a quiet place and the bed was great. An incredible place to stay and to eat. The room was large, original, in a quiet place and the bed was great. I particularly appreciate the shower which is well designed, plus it is accessible for disabled people. The breakfast is an exceptionnal moment with home made jams, several type of bread, local saussage and ham, fresh squeezed fruit juice,... for a reasonnable price in comparison with larger hotel. But above all is the restaurant experience that takes you through a tour of local fresh products, an incredible mix of textures, of tastes of colour. One of the best meal I ever have done. Despite amount of food being small per dishes (hopefully, you wouldn't stand a 9 courses dishes otherwise...), you are full when it comes to the final coffee. We decided to offer that experience to our parents.

The staff did everything to make us feel good and comfortable in a caring way. Many thanks! Modern spacious rooms make the stay comfortable. Auberge de la Tour is highly recommended!

“Another hidden gem...”

Well worth seeking out if your travels take you anywhere close. The village itself is worth the visit, with its picturesque streets and novel craft shops, set in the heart of the Cantal countryside. Well worth seeking out if your travels take you anywhere close. The village itself is worth the visit, with its picturesque streets and novel craft shops, set in the heart of the Cantal countryside. The hotel may have started as a restaurant with rooms, and still retains that feel, despite the rooms being discretely tucked away in a modern block behind the main building. Easy free parking at the rear. Although we had a fine, spacious room with a whirlpool bath, we were slightly disappointed that there was no proper shower. We were also a little startled by the bathroom offering no privacy from the bedroom (clear glass wall, no blind), though thankfully the toilet is separate. We were however pleased with ourselves for negotiating the whirlpool bath instructions (in semi-legible French) successfully without causing flooding! Staff were friendly, and the restaurant was very popular - justifiably so, as we had another excellent dinner. Worth seeking out.
