“Good old style Lourdes hotel”

Needs a little freshen up but staff are welcoming and helpful. Rooms are clean if a little small. Continental breakfast was excellent. Free parking and WI fi a bonus. Excellent value and we will return

I stayed here for four nights in August on my own, visiting the shrine and also doing some walking in the Pyrenees. I booked through an online reservations firm which took payment from my card on booking when the arrangement was supposed to be pay on arrival. When I queried this, they refunded my payment and said yes, I should pay the hotel on arrival. When I went to download my accommodation voucher the night before I left home, they had cancelled my booking! I e-mailed the hotel and they kindly phoned me in the morning to confirm that they did indeed have a room for me and in the end I paid the bill - which was very reasonable - on the last evening. The hotel is in a good location as it is mid-way between the Sanctuary and the train station - 10 minutes' walk to each - and near the commercial area of the town (the "normal" shops etc). I received a warm welcome and plenty of information about Lourdes and a good guide-book about the Hautes-Pyrenees, along with my room key. My room was on the 4th floor and had twin beds, an en-suite bathroom, writing table and chair, a space for hanging clothes, and a small balcony with French windows opening on to it. This got the afternoon sun and it was very pleasant sitting on it with a view towards the shrine and the mountains over the nearby rooftops. There was also a small flat-screen TV on the wall, and a room heater, although I didn't use either of them. The window looked very new, and the bathroom fittings also seemed quite recent. There were complimentary toiletries provided (shower gel and shampoo). The room was nice and clean: they forgot to make it up on the first day, but it was done every other day. We can all forget things and make mistakes. The only negative thing about the room was that you could hear a lot from the rooms on either side, but this didn't bother me unduly and I slept well as the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast consisted of two choices of cereal, bread, croissants, yogurts, jam, fruit, cheese, and you could eat as much as you liked. There was a hot drinks machine too. I also had dinner one night and it was very reasonable for three courses and a bottle of wine included also. The hotel has free wifi, although it struggled to get up to the 4th floor. It was very good in the reception area, however. The best thing about the hotel was the warm and friendly welcome: it is being run by a family who are trying their best and working hard. I can hardly believe that the previous reviewer was at the same hotel. The Croix de Malte is very reasonable with the prices and you are obviously not going to get 5-star quality, but if you want a friendly and clean place to stay in Lourdes this fits the bill very well.

“Tired hotel. False info on their website”

The toiletries weren't topped up each day. The room was tiny, esp the toilet&bath. There was only 1 socket in our room and it was close to the door lock, so can't leave the phone to charge when we're out. The staff don't speak English. Facilities are tired and the information on the website is so d… lisää

There was only 1 socket in our room and it was close to the door lock, so can't leave the phone to charge when we're out. The staff don't speak English. Facilities are tired and the information on the website is so deceiving! They don't offer airport shuttle, no fitness centre inside, wifi only in reception. Website says checkout time up to 1300, but we were told to vacate the room at 1130.

We stayed here for 3 nights and our review is as follows: 1) Location: Great, only walking distance from the Grotto and other amenities. 2) Room: very basic room with two beds and good size bathroom. You don't have hair dryer, etc. You need to open the windows because they don't have air conditioner and sometime is hot. The room is clean in general. 3) Noise: generally the hotel is very quiet. Sometimes you hear people using the stairs but after a while is ok. 4) Breakfast: is poor. You will have only croissant and French bread, orange juice, cereal, yogurt and coffe. Don't expect ham, eggs and cheese. 5) TV: only French channels, if you want to see any English Channel forget about it. 6) Wi-fi: is free included on room price but is slow. We were on 5th floor and we struggle to see our iPhone and iPad. 7) others: the attention was good when we got there. After the 2nd day we found people rude and little patience. The price is reasonable, therefore if you are looking for a hotel not 5-star you can use this hotel.
