What a gem of a B&B! It is in a fantastic location and with just 3 rooms, it feels really private. Each room has a lovely outdoor space and the rooms themselves are generous in terms of space and furnishings. But the best thing by far is the hosts - Shona and Amanda. Shona's breakfasts are the best and their care and focus upon quality of service is second to none. They really do make you feel like family.

I've been wanting to visit Isle of Wight ever since I heard Paul McCartney sing, "Every summer we can rent a cottage in the Isle of Wight, if it's not too dear." My wife chose Koala Cottage as a way to make my childhood dream come true. From the moment we checked in, until the moment we left, we felt welcomed, pampered and indulged. The rooms are comfy, the amenities are just right, and the daily breakfast was superb. Shona and Amanda are the best hosts, striking the perfect balance between hospitable professionalism and feeling like family having you over for a weekend. We enjoyed chatting with them so much, and look forward to returning someday. The cottage is close to town. Calling it "walking distance" almost makes it sound further than it is. Everything is right there. The only downside is that much of the town opens around 9 or 10 am, and closes by 4 pm (1600). Only the pubs and some eateries are open beyond that. We didn't really understand the geography of the island, and Godshill is somewhat central, but that may be as much a minus as a plus, as everything seems a 30-minute taxi ride away, and you often have to wait 30-60 minutes for a taxi. So, planning your day is essential, and pre-booking taxis is helpful, unless you don't mind waiting around. (It also seems that every taxi ride is £30-40, so plan on that as well.) If you can bring a car to the island, or a bicycle or e-bike, it might make getting around less work... If I was to do it again, I would stay longer, and plan to do more long walks! There is a lot to do all over the island, and we only did about half of what we expected, because we realized quickly that island life is about enjoying the moment and not scurrying about, so we did. We could easily have spent the entire time in Godshill, but we did make it out to Ventnor Botanic Garden, Yarmouth, and the Osbourne House, which were all worthwhile side-trips. Koala Cottage feels like a place from a movie, so perfect you almost don't feel it could be real. Amanda and Shona have created a little piece of heaven on the Isle of Wight, and now I can dream of returning.

On arrival for a two night stay, Shona, one of the owners, welcomed us and showed us to our suite "Sapphire" and all the room facilities were pointed out, including a decanter of Sherry, which is complimentary. Everything about koala was near perfect. The room was very tastefully decorated and had a very comfortable king-size bed. The bathroom had both a bath, which my partner prefers and a shower. Breakfast was between 9 and 10, which suited us perfectly, and a printed sheet was provided to make choices for the following morning's breakfast. A pleasant extra was a Tikki bar where cocktails could be ordered, and we availed ourselves of the service and ordered a pitcher of Negroni, which was made by Amanda, the other owner and it was spot on, we spent a good 20 mins chatting to both the owners and found them to be a lovely couple. Unfortunately, my partner, who had not been feeling too well prior to our arrival, felt worse during the night, which resulted in a trip to A and E. Fortunately, we did not have a long wait and received excellent service at the hospital and were able to get back after a couple of hours. However, my partner did not feel well enough to go to breakfast. Shona, though, brought the breakfast to our room. Regarding the breakfast, if you enjoy full English you will find the quality, second to none and the sausages were some of the best I have ever eaten. If I was being super critical on our second morning, my partner had ham with her eggs, and it was the regular ham you get from a packet. Perhaps ham on the bone would have been perfection. Despite my partner feeling poorly, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would have no hesitation in recommending The Koala to everyone visiting the IOW. Thank you both very much, Shona and Amanda. We arrived as guests but felt that we left as friends
