We have just returned from a 5 night break with Leger Holidays,( Christmas markets of the Black Forrest). And what a lovely surprise we had when we arrived at The Hirsch. The rooms were spacious clean and well equipped, the food was simple local dishes cooked to a very good standard although the choice slightly limited, but I didnt hear one complaint. Bar prices were good with a nice bottle of red wine costing 14.50 euro and Beer 3.50 euro. But the hotels best asset is its staff, Angel the manager and his crew cater for your every need, nothing is to much trouble and done with a smile. Thank you Angel for making our stay so special.

“Would visit again”

What I loved best about this hotel was my balcony. It was lovely. Tubs of flowers all along it. Overlooking the river. Looking across to the wooded hills and the chalet type houses. I spent a lot of time on my balcony. It's a quirky, oldie worldy hotel. My room was nice. Well lit. More storage spa… lisää

What I loved best about this hotel was my balcony. It was lovely. Tubs of flowers all along it. Overlooking the river. Looking across to the wooded hills and the chalet type houses. I spent a lot of time on my balcony. It's a quirky, oldie worldy hotel. My room was nice. Well lit. More storage space than a couple would need in my single room. I had a totally unused wardrobe. The bed was comfy for a change. Hotel beds are usually too hard for my hips. I liked the quirky decor of my wardrobe, carpet and umbrella stand. Now for the firs of my gripes. The shower was easy to adjust for temperature. But I never found out how to adjust the jet. Some had glass. But I only had a curtain. No matter how careful I tried to be I always flooded the washroom floor in some measure. Breakfasts were excellent. Although nothing cooked except scrambled eggs one morning. Evening meal. Yes. They were OK. Nothing wrong with the meals themselves. But my second gripe. No vegetables. I was only at this hotel because my holiday to the Harz mountains was cancelled. But I had a really good holiday at this hotel and if my Harz mountains trip is cancelled again next year I shall go back to the Hotel Hirsch if there's room on the coach.

We stayed here as part of a Shearings tour. Positives-the hotel is a typical half timbered Alpine type.The hotel has lots of character. The bedrooms are very nice with a balcony -ours overlooked the local stream. Negatives-big negative for dinner.They do not seem to know what vegetarians eat. The first night we literally got a plate of vegetables with some salad cream on ! It is dumped in front of you on a take or leave it basis. As reported in other reviews the manager is so rude and unhelpful.A very bad advert for a pleasant hotel.We had an uninspiring pasta on 2 of the other nights. Shame because the hotel lives up to a 3* rating and the breakfast buffet is very nice.Pity about the unsmiling waitress . They certainly need to improve the customer service experience. Another example -at dinner there was a separate salad bar but we were not allowed to touch it.Likewise at breakfast -you were sternly rebuked if you dared to sit at the table on the right hand side. The waiter in the bar in the evening is excellent -friendly and helpful.

Just got back from a five night stay with Shearings at the hotel Hirsch. beautiful surroundings. The village is very pleasant with good amenities and free travel on public transport simply by applying for a travel pass at the reception desk. The hotel experience was spoiled mainly by two of the staff who were not very welcoming to the point of rudeness to several of the elderly British guests. Shouting at them unnecessarily instead of explaining patiently what was required.There were German guests staying at the hotel at the time and I witnessed no rude behaviour towards them in fact quite the opposite. The food was basic continental breakfast and usually a one choice menu in the evening no vegetables were served with the meal. If you were part of the Shearings group you were all served at the same time regardless of whether you had declined the excursion for the day or not. I am not a vegetarian but the hotel makes no effort to cater for them. The inclusive package had a small bar menu. The last meal on Friday evening was a buffet which was mainly similar food from the weeks menu. Chips and croquettes were served as part of the buffet and when they ran out they were not replenished neither were several other items. Although many of the guests were British there wasn't many signs in English in the hotel the majority were written in German apart from one in the dining room which was placed near a basket and read Staff Tips. Our room was not serviced the same dead fly remained respectfully undisturbed on the rug all week. The rules on smoking are relaxed in Germany and there are ashtrays in all rooms and in the dining areas of the hotel. I hope a member of Shearings are reading this review as our Senior citizens and your customers deserve better than this. I suggest you remove this hotel from your preferred list of hospitality suppliers as they do not deserve this privileged position. I cannot hand on heart recommend this hotel to anyone.
