We stayed just one night on our way across Europe. Hidden in the pleasant highlands of Schwarzwald with number of streams, creeks and small rivers, Glatt village with its Water Castle is oasis of peace and friendship. Hotel Zur Freystatt is equally quiet, absolutely clean and well organized place to stay. From perfect service and care of the owners (family) through outstanding cuisine combined with next door historic castle, I can only recommend this hotel to all of you, who want to stay out of rush and restlessness of this world.

“Lovely small-town hotel”

This was a real find. We were looking for a hotel between Stuttgart and Konstanz, and this hotel met those criteria, but it turned out to be more than just an adequate overnight stay. This was a real find. We were looking for a hotel between Stuttgart and Konstanz, and this hotel met those criteria, but it turned out to be more than just an adequate overnight stay. The hotel is about 5 km off the autobahn (exit at Empfingen), so it is quite convenient to the autobahn. It wasn't hard to find the town, although a detailed map is helpful. Glatt itself is a charming small town (perhaps 1000 people) set in a river valley. As the other review mentioned, there is a small moated castle (now a museum) right across from the hotel. The large town park is also just a block away. In some ways the layout is similar to a two-story American motel, with a long central corridor with the rooms on either side of the corridor. The rooms are large and the second-story rooms have balconies (or at least our rooms did). Everything was spotlessly clean. The WI-FI worked well. We had supper at the hotel restaurant, and it was wonderful - perhaps the best pork tenderloin I have ever had. The breakfast also was very good. It was the typical German buffet breakfast, with a very extensive selection and excellent quality. If I remember correctly the jams were homemade. The lady at reception spoke excellent English, so there should be no language barrier for English-speaking tourists. Prices are very reasonable for a European hotel. All in all I highly recommend this hotel (and its' restaurant!).

“Value for money,lovely location”

Very friendly,high quality restaurant.beautiful scenery with Castle beside hotel.lovely walks along the river nearbye.Free Wifi,skittle alley.Stayed there 12 nights over last 2 years.always happy to return.Relaxing sleep every time.!

“Disappointing ”

The hotel is located opposite the „Wasserschloss“ and is therefore in a lovely spot. As one previous comment from 2019 - I do totally agree. The bathroom has been updated but the room and also the hotel itself need to be renovated. The room’s especially the carpets are worn and need replacing. The … lisää

The bathroom has been updated but the room and also the hotel itself need to be renovated. The room’s especially the carpets are worn and need replacing. The balcony look tired and are not inviting. Also the entrance, stairwell and hall need a complete make over. Very outdated. The positiv things are, that the bed was very comfy, and the breakfast buffet was very good. Also the owners are very friendly and helpful. It all looks rather tired - such a shame given its location.
