This was our second stay at the Adler and it was as brilliant as I remember. The rooms are fantastic with a great view out on the hills. The location is perfect for the little trips into Black Forrest or the surrounding wine country. The hotel staff know the area well and due to the 1 star Michelin restaurant will be able to tell you which producers to visit. The added bonus is that Alsace is only an hour away and this hotel will beat anything they have price quality wise. We usually stay here an do the day trips to Riquewihr. Also make sure you dine at the hotel the food is amazing

“Exellent Stay”

I returned to Lahr to visit my old school as the Canadian Army was based there. Our stay at the Alder was more then comfortable, the staff was very helpful and the restaurant was outstanding. I returned to Lahr to visit my old school as the Canadian Army was based there. Our stay at the Alder was more then comfortable, the staff was very helpful and the restaurant was outstanding. After a long flight and drive from Frankfurt, the breakfast the next day was welcoming. The only wish I had is that we would have booked more days. I would recommend the paths in the area, which run to Lahr along the Shutter and into the 'foothills' of the Blackforest. From Reichenbacher, you could easily reach into the Blackforest to the many towns and visit. We also did a day trip to the Rhine, crossed to France and back. Finally, visiting the centre of Lahr with the flower festival that was on, was very special. We will return!

We we unaware of the famous restaurant and just stayed one night to visit friends nearby. The reception was friendly and professional. The room excellent, good beds, nice bathroom, amenities and good wifi. Balcony and quiet. The breakfast was superb - served well and eggs menu available. Nothi… lisää

“Black Forest inside and out”

This hotel is not in Lahr,but in a rural location at the commuter village of Reichenbach.My rear facing room had a pleasant view of forested hillsides,and the interior decor reflected this,with much lightly finished timber.The large shower cubicle even had a photo-mural, of a forest scene with characteristic woodpile,on the solid walls.My room was very large,with plenty of storage,and a useful balcony complete with geraniums in window box.The light moss-green carpet was pleasant to walk on,and clean despite the very vulnerable colour. The whole building looks very well maintained,as might be expected from the very enthusiastic owner who is frequently present in person.Even the residents` car park is attractively adorned with shrubs and brick paving. I used the "Gasthaus" restaurant,with the choice of a small tree-shaded courtyard or a spacious modern barn-sized room.The service is excellent,and the menu features both traditional and French items,with the appropriate seasonal speciality(white asparagus) in various permutations.The kitchen seems quite happy to provide variations on request. I did not use the gourmet restaurant, with its six courses,in the older part of the building. Breakfast is quite grandly set out in yet another dining room.The buffet is excellent,with a choice of cheeses as if in France.The tea making is perfect,with a wide choice,really hot water,and even a 3 minute sandglass. One feature of the service which needs a special mention is the laundry.With a five hour turnround,your shirt can become a true masterpiece of ironing. The only quibbles a British visitor can come up with arise after a warm night,when a fan would have been welcome(one was provided later on request),although airconditioning would seem superfluous in this location.
