The Waldhotel is a beautifully located accommodation that is traditional Germany to its finest. The venue, rooms and food are superb. However what sets it apart from the many hotels that we have stayed in Germany in the past 3 weeks is it's unrivalled hospitality. Whilst the buildings and site are brilliant, it is the people within that will ensure Cottbus and the Waldhotel leave fond memories for all within our tour group. The manager cannot do enough, whilst the girls in reception, restaurant and bar are magnificent hostesses. A must stay if you wish to experience real Germany and truly authentic German hospitality. “A relaxing hotel and great for walkers and cyclists”

I first found this place several years ago pre-Covid, and was delighted to see it still open. I first found this place several years ago pre-Covid, and was delighted to see it still open. Cottbus might not be the obvious place to go to for a break but it has a beautiful old town, very nice parklands, a military aerodrome now a museum, and is very close to the largely traffic-free cycling trails which run for miles around. Don't miss the Old Town, the architecture is lovely and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants. Cottbus is the kind of place you don’t tell people about because you don’t want it discovered! Although the Waldhotel is located a little way outside the centre of Cottbus, it is surrounded by pine trees on all sides so feels much more rural than it is. The hotel is cyclist- and walker-friendly and can arrange cycle hire. The rooms were decorated almost entirely in natural wood, with a warm feel. There is a good variety at the breakfast and the evening meals were very generous, and good quality. If you are heading off cycling they will make you a packed lunch for a small fee, although we used the nearby Lidl for provisions and then filled up at dinner in the evenings. The only slight niggle was a part of one of our meals wasn’t served one night and still didn’t arrive after we chased it. However, they did have a shortage of staff on that day and we were happy to overlook it as at all other times everyone was very helpful and friendly. This is the third time I have stayed here and I will be going again. If you visit in good weather, the outside terrace at the back overlooking the pines is a really lovely place to relax in the evenings.

We only staid overnight at this friendly hotel on the outskirts of Cottbus, south of Berlin, en route to Poland. The reception was friendly and helpful, the room comfortable and well equipped and reasonably priced. We had asked for a room in a quiet part of the hotel, a request which they took in… lisää

We only staid overnight at this friendly hotel on the outskirts of Cottbus, south of Berlin, en route to Poland. The reception was friendly and helpful, the room comfortable and well equipped and reasonably priced. We had asked for a room in a quiet part of the hotel, a request which they took into account by giving us a room at the far end, well away from the restaurant and bowling alley. The restaurant is really nice and the food good.

If your into dated decor and staff in period costume then this is probably the hotel for you. Nothing is particularly wrong with the hotel besides the decor. But for a night stop over the novelty will probably not wear off, for a week I'm not too sure. - curtains are not black out - Bathrooms coul… lisää

But for a night stop over the novelty will probably not wear off, for a week I'm not too sure. - curtains are not black out - Bathrooms could be a little cleaner - no foreign TV channels - Internet provided by 'Telekom' and is very expensive - dated decor - food a real mixture very good one day, terrible the next. - only one key per room - no bath - no air con - could be problem in summer + bike rental and storage + most of the staff are very friendly + very close to large shopping centre and not far from swimming pool + bowling alley on site (if thats your thing) + fairly large rooms + electric car charging point - clearly I've run out of positives now...
