Situated in a village o half-timbered houses, it is between the main road and railway line. It can be noisey if you have to have the windows open as I did as it was very hot and no air con. The hotel is about 300m from the railway station. The bedrooms are modern and quite spacious, for a single. The restaurant is very good with a typical German cuisine. The staff are friendly and helpful.

“A Comfortable and Pleasant place to stay in Marburg”

I had an extremely pleasant stay in Hotel-Restaurant Orthwein in Colbe, Marburg, Germany last week. It is located approximately 5 minutes away from Marburg railway station by road. I had an extremely pleasant stay in Hotel-Restaurant Orthwein in Colbe, Marburg, Germany last week. It is located approximately 5 minutes away from Marburg railway station by road. I stayed in a small single room but it was excellent - extremely neat, comfortable and cosy with a very clean bathroom, and a tiny baggage room with locker. The breakfast is sumptuous and quite good but is served only after 8 am on weekends. The restaurant closes at 8 pm but there is a little Italian restaurant right across the road which is open late. The staff, especially the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Orthwein, are exceptionally courteous, pleasant and very helpful. I have no hesitation to recommend this hotel to people planning to visit Marburg or nearby Colbe.

“Time warp back to the 50s”

The hotel is very clean and the bed was very (!) comfortable. The room was quiet except for the stairs that made some noise but that did not keep me awake. The room is minimalist, there is nothing that catches your eye, it is neither ugly nor pretty. The restaurant is dark, very dark. Even at dayli… lisää

The hotel is very clean and the bed was very (!) comfortable. The room was quiet except for the stairs that made some noise but that did not keep me awake. The room is minimalist, there is nothing that catches your eye, it is neither ugly nor pretty. The restaurant is dark, very dark. Even at daylight the lights are on as there is dark wood and no clear glass in the windows. Nobody talks and it is really depressing... The waitress with the nose ring (surprised she got a job there !) was very friendly. The food was probably reheated frozen, apart from the salad, which was good. Breakfast was plenty and good. However, asking guests to bring wads of cash as owners refuse credit cards is an anachronism. We are in 2016! Luckily I had enough cash with me.

WE were on a cycling tour and this hotel welcomes cyclists. It has a lock-up garage. The hotel is clean and the room was simple but comfortable. A good breakfast was provided. A double room at the weekend in October cost 79 EUR including breakfast. There is in theory free WLAN but the signal was too weak in our room. The disadvantage is that they only accept cash. When I asked if I could use a debit card (from a German bank) I was told "NEIN!" Not "We are sorry but we only accept cash" but "NEIN!" as if I had made an indecent proposal. This is a very old hotel with tradition but they managed the move from taking coins to taking paper currency - why not the next step? It is after all the 21st century.
